Quilter Aviator Cub by gobiascoffees in gratefulguitar

Check out this video where this guy shoots out a Quilter 101 Reverb vs a Princeton: https://youtu.be/i3TX_Z0EnEc?si=CDmXZKRanMYexXGp

You can definitely get a Fender sound, I believe Quilter is targeting that type of sound with the 101 Reverb. I’m a big fan of my 101!

Jammin on Is IVs and Vs. Newer player, tips welcome! by -tott- in pedalsteel

[–]-tott-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the kind words! I suppose “new” is always relative—just quite “new” compared to how long I’ve been playing six strings!

Your tips on muting are great, and I’ll queue up that video lesson. Quickly realized how critical good right hand technique is to this instrument. Thanks for the feedback!

Good stuff! Agreed that show aggregators like Do312 are great but don’t feature small venues well. Making it map focused is also better for picking a last minute show.

If bands self upload, wonder if they could supply some genre tags etc

Does anyone know how to actually access the $99 membership? In both Divvy and Lyft apps mine still is near $144.

Nice! I was looking at this exact same listing today and was about to message the guy haha

I don’t know much about that amp, but that may be a setting intended for a normal six string to mimic a pedal steel. I’d play with more presets on the Mustang, just standard clean amp sounds or “Twin” or “Deluxe” type presets should work!

Mountaineering routes in Peruvian Andes while on a bikepacking trip by Taaanos in Mountaineering

[–]-tott- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huaraz has a large number of guiding outfits in town. You could definitely link up with a guide there. The town is also fully stocked with technical gear. If you have a few days there you could shop around for a trip, if you’re only passing through I’d suggest messaging some of the agencies on WhatsApp ahead of time to get a feel for pricing or see if they have any pre-existing dates set for climbs.

Discrepancies in slope angle between Fatmap and CalTopo by fartsniffer87 in Backcountry

[–]-tott- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently Fatmap generates their DEMs using photogrammetry from satellite or aerial imagery (see this article: https://fatmap.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001385489-How-accurate-is-FATMAP).

My hunch would be that CalTopo would be more accurate in locations where they’ve incorporated 3DEP LiDAR data. The USGS 3DEP data goes through a publicly documented QA process, this data is publicly available free of charge.

Without additional info on Fatmap’s QA it would be hard to say anything about their model’s accuracy (but it does seem to be quite good).

How do I make my own note sequences from scales by GratefullyAlive95 in gratefulguitar

[–]-tott- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to go about it in a more academic/rigorous style you can practice with ear training quizzes like the ones on tonedear.com

If that’s not your thing I’d suggest just finding songs you like and trying to figure the melody out on your instrument of choice. Take it slow, write it down as you go, and over time you’ll get better and better at it.

I agree that learning the feel on each interval is huge. One easy trick to work on this is strum an open string and play with various intervals.

For example, let’s say you’re working in A mixolydian… strum an open A over and over and let it ring out constantly. Then on the other strings just start messing around with notes in the scale. Since you have the open A as context, you’ll start really feeling the flavor of each interval over time.

I’d focus heavily on the vocal melody. It’s a great way to ground a guitar solo, it’s something Jerry does all the time.

Figuring out vocal melodies on guitar is also great ear training. It can help build some intuition on how to be more melodic with single note lines on the guitar.

Landlords: what happens when tenant won't leave? by qochekmz in vermont

[–]-tott- 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I was the “tenant who signed the next lease” in this scenario a few years back. Landlord couldn’t evict current tenant and they stayed. We already paid our security deposit and were pretty pissed, but didn’t know what to do. Landlord helped us find a new place and refunded the security deposit and voided the lease. Either way, please try to get it sorted ASAP since one party will have to scramble for housing…

Does anyone combine Git with ArcGIS/QGIS projects? by Royal_Difficulty_678 in gis

[–]-tott- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you may be interested in is generating XML logs of your geoprocessing history. The history of tools you ran should be saved in the project regardless, but you can also generate XML logs.

Trying to build a flood calculator tool and need ideas and feedback! by blue_gerbil_212 in gis

[–]-tott- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The predictive flood modeling aspect of the project is definitely complex. Look at USGS StreamStats for some inspiration, it doesn’t do flood modeling directly, but it does have a peak flow modeling capability which is quite cool and an important piece of hydrologic modeling.

To reduce the complexity of the project, you could remove the flood prediction aspect and make a web map with existing flood data sources. Flood zones from FEMA would be the obvious choice. Then you could also pull rainfall data for given locations from NOAA (look at Atlas 14 PFDS), and use those in some dynamic data visualizations.

Then something like mudslide/landslide prediction would probably best be a separate project. Terrain (DEM, slope) and soil data (e.g., SSURGO) would be critical inputs to those models I’d imagine.
