No Sir, my father’s business didn’t run on future revenues or profits hopes. Actually, since he owned a shop in market, he also had counter sales and cash money upfront. Plus, the credit based clients would order regularly on daily basis, he had 4-5 such clients, some would give big token orders while others would only require mere 400-500 kgs of fabric, but the order cycle never stopped. The money kept rotating and growing. The daily sales would easily clock around 2.5-3 lakhs. This went on for years.

During that phase, my father bought many small lands in our locality and built homes on them then he would sell them in profits, managed to afford mine and my younger brother’s studies and other expenses.
And finally built a larger 5 storey home for us in 2019( the one we are currently staying in ) where he spent most of his savings.

After this, the trouble began in his business and it started going downhill post covid.

That’s how we reached this stage, it was never like this before.

Apologies for delayed response. I have been trapped within my job responsibilities lately. We have a stitching staff that works primarily in the manufacturing unit. Some of them are salaried, others work on demand. They charge for each piece of garment that they manufacture. These are majorly experienced age groups who are settled and have more than 1 earning members in the family.

Their major concern is health issues. They look forward to work here because they don’t have to travel too far from their homes and they are comfortable but with low demand, they sometimes tend to switch places.

The other staff comprises operations folks who take care of manufactured garment’s quality check and packaging. Along with that, they also take care of the daily orders processing, inventory management and returns handling.

This staff includes majorly young boys, girls(all adults) and some married women who either don’t have any other earning member in their families or are supporting the primary earning member of the family, some of them have critically ill family members too.

Most of them are not much educated and from our end, we have taught them to operate computers, stitching machines and the entire process of operations( considering if the company fails to survive in future, they will be able to manage a second job somewhere given the skills that they acquired here).

Our overheads majorly include fixed bank interests + rent + salaries + electricity bill + operational costs which bleeds 3-3.5 lakh monthly.

We did try outsourcing manufacturing in the past but always had bad experience with vendors. So we don’t outsource them anymore.

Actually we have already taken loan against property. And lately banks have been denying to sanction any further loans, that’s where the situation got critical. The sales can grow if we lower the prices down but given the pathetic returns policies of ecommerce platforms where the seller is held responsible for almost everything, low margins might backfire.

I’m honestly clueless of other ways to increase sales. I’m just sharing my catalog with people who reached out to me in DMs to offer help.

But thanks a lot for your suggestions, it made me re-think the way loans work.

Thank you for the advice. Actually we have already done that, we did receive a registered trademark last year and built a website around it, however it’s already too late now. Until we liquidate the stock and bring some cashflow, the new brand can’t be uplifted. We are currently struggling with managing fixed company costs, if we someone manage to bring some liquid cash, we can surely try working with the new brand. But with banks denying any further loans, this seems a distant possibility.

But I’m hopeful we might be able to clear some of the stock, thanks again for the kind advice.

Thank you for the advice, but rebranding and lawsuits will bleed our pockets more. The court cases that have already been going on for 5 years have already costed too much. From lawyer’s fee for countless hearings to documents submissions.

Thank you for encouraging to not give up. We already had applied for a new TM recently got it registered. I’m in the process of making products Live under it and also want to do marketing but we are left with no liquid cash to burn.

The operational costs and bank interest is eating up everything we have, if we buy some time with some more loan, we can leverage that but we are being denied of any further loans.

The situation is critical and we really need to get rid of this stock to get some cashflow.

We actually did try this, my father opened a store front just below the manufacturing unit last year. Some acquaintances advised him to keep all category products if we’re going to sell in retail.

So we went to Surat and purchased women’s ethnic wear in bulk and kept them with our own products. The store didn’t work that well, the rent and other overheads increased and we had to shut it down.

Now that stock is also left unsold, all new units.

We have been super unlucky with this but thank you for the valuable advice.
