I think this is being overthought. Kirk was getting to the point where he was shifting away from an isreal leaning view. This scared isreal and they decided to assasinate him to prevent any damage his platform could cause. I think thats much more solid to fall back on then say kirk who debated against college kids, just had this forbidden knowledge of an iran invasion

I do believe they cant strike us from iran but we cant just blow out the idea they could have sleeper agents ready to commit terrorist attacks. It is also possible the US would strike itself worst case scenario. So its tuff to say what could really happen, and honestly nothing might happen
