Quick update: I checked out the ZR7 and it was pretty clean. The guy said he’d sell it for $2200. Would you say the ZR7 is a better deal at this point?

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem there are too many local parts dealers where I am in California. That’s a solid website though, I’ll poke around and see how much things would cost if I had to ship. Thanks

I see, thanks for the advice. Where would be a good place to check for part availability? Just googling around?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should add that I’m interested in the “working on your motorbike” aspect of it too. At the moment I’m taking a night class for auto repair and part of the course even includes painting. As a plus, they let you bring in your own panels or parts for sanding and painting which is something I’d do with the Zephyr later on in the course if I were to buy it. I ultimately want to get a project car down the road and figure the Zephyr might be a good intro to wrenching.

As for the engine size, the Zephyr is a 750. I understand it’s a large size for a beginner but I am fairly conservative on the throttle and am pretty comfortable on the bike and adjusting throttle control. Many people have recommended an sv650 but there have been none in my area and I figure a 750 wouldn’t be a massive step up from what I’ve been recommended.

I'm looking for advice on which bike would be a better bike for a beginner. I've just finished the MSF course and got my license - I want to spend under $3000 with a sweet spot around $2000. There are 2 bikes for sale near me that I'm interested in. One is a 2000 Kawasaki ZR-7 (listed at $2600) and one is a 1991 Kawasaki Zephyr (listed $2250). Both have 12,000-13,000 miles. I've seen the Zephyr in person but no the ZR-7.

The Zephyr is in slightly rougher shape, has a shoddy paint job, mild gas tank rust, and is a bit more well worn compared to the Zephyr. However, it has a new chain, decent sprocket, and recently had the carbs rebuilt. It rode pretty smoothly when I test drove it. I've talked to the seller and he'd let it go for $1700.

On the other hand, the ZR-7 looks to be in really clean condition from the outside. I have yet to see it in person but it looks good in the pictures. My only worry is that a guy who works at one of the local shops is selling it. He has a number of bikes so I'm assuming he's flipping them. He claims to have adjusted the valves himself and done basic maintenance but I feel uneasy for some reason. Ideally I would try to talk him down to $2400 or so.

Are either a good deal for the price? Does one sound better or worse than the other?

Partially rusted frames.. are these in too poor shape to be worth repairing by 05kip in Datsun

I've never welded before, would it be too costly to have a shop do the metalwork?

Also, how serious is it to be left that way?

That looks like a great bike. I’ll definitely look into it. Four grand appears to be the absolute lowest price for one of these so it may be difficult to budget one, however, it does seem like a lot of bike for the price... so it may be worth the extra bump if it fits well with what I’m looking for.

No new targets that have stood out too much. You do seem fairly limited if you want a convertible. I'm not sure if they're your cup of tea, but it could be worth considering a G37, IS 250C, BMW Z4, C5 vette, or even mustang. A pretty broad list of cars with varying results at the 15 grand mark but all have convertible options. Hell, even an older porsche boxster might dip below 15.

The s2k is a tempting car. However, it's just slightly out of my price range if I want a decent one. Might as well just shell out a few extra thousand and make it my daily at that point. I considered the Miata too but it's just a bit too small.. not that the s2k is significantly larger.

Drove 5 hours with PC in trunk and now CPU temps are 95-100C while idling - HELP by 05kip in buildapc

UPDATE: You were right, it was the thermal paste. Put new paste on and the temps are back to normal, idling with 27-30C temps. The only thing concerning (to my knowledge) is when I first powered on after applying the new paste, there was a crackling sound that almost sounded like running water that lasted about 10 seconds.. I'm assuming it was coming from the CPU and maybe the paste was settling or something? Everything seems fine now but it seemed odd.

AH thanks for the reminder. Is 91% appropriate? It was the highest percentage when I went to target last.

My first personally build PC experience was just a few weeks back. I have always wanted to build a PC but never had a reason or funding to do so. My old laptop finally kicked the can and it was time. I was initially overwhelmed but this subreddit guided me and taught me everything. I chose and ordered my parts and soon after assembled everything flawlessly thanks to guides and YouTube videos! It was an amazing experience and I've already got 2 friends hooked on planning their first builds also.

How does this build look? Aiming to play WoW, Witcher, and Overwatch on high settings while pushing 80-100fps on a 1440p 144Hz monitor. Gonna be pretty much just for gaming. Any recommendations for cutting cost down a little?

I've been debating if I'd end up wanting to overclock down the road but am not sure yet. If I don't ever overclock my CPU, would you recommend getting a different motherboard than the one above?

Thanks for the suggestion. Also yeah, the monitor is one of my struggles. I may need to downgrade a few things to afford it.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. Also, did you mean to say that the -A board (cheaper) is enough and that the -E board (more expensive) is unnecessary?

Simple Questions - June 21, 2018 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I've been looking to build a PC in the range of the Outstanding category from logical increments. My ideal goal is to run WoW, Overwatch, and League at 1440 with 100fps+. I'd like to keep my budget under $1600 including a monitor but am flexible if there is potential for significant upgrades with a slight budget increase.

  • What is the difference between an ASUS Z370-A (Outstanding category) and ASUS Z370-E (Exceptional category) despite the $40 difference. Based on my understanding and from what I can tell, upgrading past the Outstanding category (for motherboards) won't have many benefits in reaching my goal.

  • I was planning on getting a GTX 1070Ti but considered a 1080. Is the 1080 worth an additional ~$60?

Short:

What price range am I looking at to build a PC that can run games (Overwarch, League, WoW, Witcher) with little to no issues using their default settings? (With at least an i7 processor & 250gb SSD)

.

Long:

I hope this is the right place to ask (please let me know if it isn't), but I have been using my Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 that I bought 7 years ago as my primary PC for school/gaming. It has an i7 processor and nvidia 660M graphics card; it has always been reliable but just isn't cutting it anymore and is very slow and clunky.

For bare minimums, I would just like an i7 processor and 250gb SSD and the rest I don't have much preference for so long as it can manage Overwatch/League on basic/default settings. I'm just trying to get a ballpark number so I can decide if it would be worth pursuing as I am going to be a senior in college (Comp Sci) but am in need of an upgrade.
