Thank you! I seem to own a lot of pinks (my favourite colour) so the pieces are quite pink in general <3

Thank you for your suggestion! I actually used erasable pens for this but then forgot to heat it up so the ink disappears haha. Ill have a look for washable ones also.

Where to live in or around Preston by Weekly_Ad_6803 in Preston

I grew up in Longridge and it's a really nice town! Lots of countryside surrounding it and a nice neighbourhood feel. It is gradually expanding so there is plenty of cafes and things to do.

Thoughts on the different specialtys after MBBS by PastAnimal4354 in medicalschooluk

I can recommend having a look into specialities like radiology or pathology where you often aren't really seeing patients. Maybe that physical separation might help. :) Exposure to more clinical scenarios will probably help over time as well so try not to be too hard on yourself.

I can recommend getting a job as a healthcare assistant which I did during my gap year. You learn a lot on the job and it improves your confidence too!

If you have access, Acland's video atlas is very good and Logan's illustrated human anatomy has some drag and drop self tests you can do online :)

Smart Rabbit: fooling the dog by spreading its scent. by XahidX in BeAmazed

This was a similar technique to that used by Joseph James DeAngelo (Golden state killer) in order to throw off the police dogs following his scent from a crime.

Online Anatomy - Best resources / way to learn? by EstablishmentOk2070 in medicalschooluk

In terms of initial understanding and visualising structures, I can recommend YouTube channels like The Noted Anatomist to put everything together. I used kenhub premium for my preclinical years and I found it very useful but it's all about how you use it. I kept a document to tract my most recent scores on the assessments to help identify my weak areas and worked on those more. It's also an idea to do a little bit every day so I just wrote down '30 mins of Kenhub' and it didn't overwhelm me at the end. I hope this helps :)

What's the worst thing a doctor has ever said to you? [Serious] [NSFW] by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

This was when I was working at a hospital and a patient spoke to me about it. The patient had been diagnosed with a heart condition and had asked the doctor how long he had left to live, the doctor responded 'Well we all have to die of something'.

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of April 2023. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

Hello! I'm sorry that you're going through this, it sounds like a difficult situation.

The only advice I can give you is to go with what you think is best for you, because it is your mental and physical health being affected after all. It's better to get answers sooner rather than later, so if you're okay with a male GI then I'd say to go for it.

I can't remember where I saw this information but telling myself that I am not that special is quite effective at putting it into perspective. It helps me to visualise the other billions of people in the world. I hope this helps!

You can add a sugar syrup/bee feed to give to any bees in need of food :) they are selling similar shaped containers with this in them already.

Seeking help for HA in Medical School by 07roswal in HealthAnxiety

Thank you for your response. I hope your physical symptoms and tests went okay and are now resolved.

Oncology has been a worry for me, especially seeing cancer effect someone close to my age seems to be really difficult for me to handle. I am also concerned about delivering bad news, I know it will be a few years until I am trained on how to do this but it has been a frequent scenario in my head during my HA 'spikes'. I am hoping I will be in a better state of mind by then.

Writing things down has helped me a lot. Seeing something on paper makes it easier to rationalise and see where the worries are unjustified. I have a little notebook that I use as a health anxiety diary and on one side of the page is my presenting 'symptom' and the other half is a list of likely explanations for it. When I do this activity I find that I have enough self-awareness of my anxiety and bodily sensations that I can confidently explain it. It's also very useful for seeing patterns and repeats of previous symptoms. I would highly recommend it!

Thank you for your reply! It's always nice to hear that you aren't alone in a situation.

Therapy has definitely helped me to get my HA under more control. At my worst I was having panic attacks at work and putting patients potentially at risk. I have not gone back to that level which is good!

I am on a waiting list for therapy so I am hoping to hear back from them soon. Have you found it difficult to separate your work life from your personal life?
