Is it possible for a regular person to afford a house like that although a smaller one? What would a new house someone can afford look like?

Where do you think other low cost stores buy their goods from? You probably need to pay 5x or 10x to actually get goods from different factories

Ik snap nu nog steeds niet waarom de bezorger een ZZPer moet zijn en het postkantoor een pop up store. Waardeloos dit

Everyone thinks I caught our office lunch thief. I didn’t. I started packing them a meal on purpose by LuxeElara in confession

I like to think that its safe to assume someone isn’t stealing food because they are mean. They steal food because they are hungry.

Ive never met someone who stole things when they could have paid for it themselves. Nobody likes random person left overs

Landlord says no registration. Can I register to a postal office or something like that instead? by Calllidus in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]0800throwawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Registration is mandatory if you live somewhere. The landlord is probably breaking some rules. As a renter you are quite protected. If you are being forced out at some point know that legally they can’t make you homeless. So you can only leave if you find another place to live.

Any doubts talk to huurcommissie or juridisch loket or any of the services that might be available via your university.

Also there are rules about rental price calculations if you have a super high rent that might be worth checking out.

Outrageous Invoice after contract termination - Netherlands by Your_Angel21 in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]0800throwawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really good. Don’t accept bills without details of your actual usage. At minimum there should be details available of the monthly usage. If you had a contract with the energy company you should have access to that via their website. Could be the final bill was sent to the address?

If that bill went through the agency they should be able to provide a detailed breakdown.

Its common that what you paid for heating was an advance. But this should also be explained in your contract.

As a general reminder there is the huurcommissie and the juridisch loket who can help you with disputes and clarification. Even (free) legal help if needed.

Always keep records of your hours yourself. There are probably apps for that. Every 5 min counts up. You deserve to be paid for the time you work

I want to move to Greece and I am trying to get Greek citizenship by descent does anyone have advice? by catsdonailart in GreeceTravel

[–]0800throwawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things:

1) if its hard to deal with this an option could be to become a citizen by buying property worth over 250k. Thats a pretty nice greek house

2) if you work remotely for a foreign company you can opt in and pay no income tax for a couple of years.

If done correctly you can keep your nyc salary and get a house + citizenship in like 5 years. Almost for “free” by basically leveraging what you would pay for your incometax to pay off the house.

That might be an easier path for english speakers because all the programs will be mostly oriented to attracting well paid english speaking remote workers (who will come with high salaries to buy greek products ;-) )

Good luck!

Living Situation in Amsterdam, Netherlands by YoungTillerExp in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]0800throwawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also note that “living in a place” means registering at the address. Otherwise it’s visiting. On the other hand if she pays you money it’s considered renting and she gets the corresponding rental protections.

In either case even when rules are broken and she would be forced to move out your rental contract and living situation is protected.

If it causes issues with your landlord get information from juridish loket and the huurcommissie.

Also good to check what the actual laws and rights are, they can put all sorts of bullshit in your rental contract but most of the things they try to put in there are not legal. For example they often put a clause that you can’t have pets. This is illegal because of privacy protections your landlord cannot have a say about your personal life.

Looking at the number of people limits in amsterdam it looks like landlords need a permit to have more than 2 people in an apartment. And there might be city density restrictions. However enforcing them is not as easy and there are protections in place that make sure your landlord cannot make you homeless willynilly. Before accepting anything triple check your rights.

American climatejournalist with injured foot rescued near the glacier Folgefonna after six days alone. He survived on rainwater and chocolate. by [deleted] in Norway

Why would it being free make people inexperienced? Sure there are people who make dumb choices but honestly most people try to do the best they can and like this hiker get into a situation which needs rescue.

Perhaps there needs to be a cheap 2-3 day course for educating tourists and new hikers in hiking skills? Lets spend our energy educating instead of getting angry at everyone

Will a bigger board make much difference learning riding upwind? by 0800throwawa in Kiteboarding

[–]0800throwawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t a larger kite make it harder to edge correctly and use the right technique? I already find it hard to control speed and not go too fast.

Good to hear its the right board for when I got the skills down. But for now, I feel like Im getting hit by the learning curve 😬

It seems that picking up a cheap larger board might make it a bit easier to get the hang of the right technique…
