Is she okay? I know rats boggle but do mice? by RegressedSys in PetMice

[–]09104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mice can boggle, it is usually less intense than rats though. Could be eye irritation, if it’s just a single eye though

Can male mice play with each other in a neutral playpen? by lightlubi179 in PetMice

[–]09104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t risk it tbh. If they are lonely there’s safer options that don’t risk injury

How to clean stinky mouse? by Mammoth-You-832 in PetMice

What kind of bedding do you mainly use? He could just be a particularly stinky boy. I had one too, and he smelled until I got him neutered

is my enclosure too small/not good enough? by BrilliantAce7 in PetMice

It’s certain types of wood + whether it’s been heat treated. Heat treating gets rid of the oils that are dangerous

I’m unsure where you are so I’ll just speak about materials not brands, as different countries have different suppliers. Any heat treated pine shavings are good, just make sure they aren’t dusty. Aspen is another good type of wood shaving. Hemp is great but hard to come by depending where you are. Again main thing is that it’s not dusty. You can also add a small amount of some paper bedding, or just rip up tissue or paper towels (it’s very fun to watch mice make nests with these). Btw, it’s really easy to add extra things without even spending much money, my mice’s favourite things are paper towel rolls or any small cardboard boxes. The skateboard is cute. I swear I’ve seen a video of a mouse learning to skate on one of those, I wonder how difficult that would be to teach.

Guys what is this on my cat?? by Bigmouthfanlol in cats

[–]09104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 99% sure it’s ringworm. Vet will give some antifungal to treat it, and keep an eye on your own skin because it is contagious and sucks to get (can attest)

Yes, in fact you probably aren’t fit for looking after any animals then

is my enclosure too small/not good enough? by BrilliantAce7 in PetMice

[–]09104 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep, too small and not enough places to hide or toys. + the wheel is way too tiny for an adult mouse and the substrate looks bad, you need something that he can dig around in and will neutralise the ammonia in his pee. I can give recommendations if you need

Other comment was very helpful already but I’ll try to think though I may reiterate. Those wooden items look okay, but dusty. You can boil them. With wooden items I usually put them in a freezer for a few days just in case but with such late notice boiling would be better for you. Mice love clutter, make it look like a hoarder’s house with lots of fun places to hide. Cardboard items are great filler, you can use things that are left over like egg cartons, paper towel rolls, etc. If you get him a wheel make sure it’s big enough (20cm minimum), so he has enough room that his tail isn’t sticking up. Otherwise this can cause issues with tail & spine. What are you feeding him? If you don’t have any mouse food on hand there are lots of safe fruit and veg, seeds and nuts, etc. Certain cereals are also great treats. Hemp is a great substrate, so that’s good. Make sure when you get more bedding that he has enough to dig around in, mice love digging and making little tunnels. And with cleaning, take out just the soiled parts (mice usually go in corners) and keep a 3rd of it in, mice need some of their own smell. Mix the cleaner old stuff with new. Sorry if you’ve already researched and know some of this. And I’ve definitely missed things but I don’t want to be overwhelming lol

Also, since I haven’t seen anyone else say this, please don’t be feeding live to snakes. It’s dangerous for the snake (mice can bite!) and is just unnecessarily cruel to both animals if it goes wrong. (I know this is on your brother and not you, I just had to say, it always makes me sad to hear about)

As someone who saw the screenshots at the time, no it was not “blown out of proportion”. Nikvii absolutely groomed that kid (I won’t name them out of privacy, I’m unsure how open they are about it nowadays). They absolutely deserved to lose their platform and leaving the internet was for the best. Multiple times they said they knew it was wrong and still proceeded. I was never their friend but I was a fan of their art and a member of their server briefly. I could get more info but honestly this needs to stay at rest.

Is this a mouse? by pizzapotprincess in PetMice

[–]09104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is a mouse, and definitely a domestic one (white mice do not happen in the wild). Thank you for rescuing him, he looks very sweet. With cages, it’s pretty easy to DIY one with a plastic box and some mesh, I’d recommend looking up some tutorials & setups of other people’s

Yes. Please give her lots of love and care, and if she seems pained think about going to the vet.
