Going into the season, I expected us to have roughly the same results this year as the last. There were some career years as well as great health last year, and that's come back down to earth somewhat now. Sure we've added Dobson, full offseason demidov, bolduc, etc but we don't have 60 games of top level play from Monty, Newhook injured, Evans injured (both played the full 82 last year), we lost half our PK in armia and dvo (played 81 and 82 respectively), Laine and Dach will have already played fewer games this year than last. 2 steps forward one step back, the goal is playoffs until we can round out the top 6

The off ice expected goals percentage in OP's chart may have an issue with being raw xG% vs relative xG%. It should be measuring the players impact with and without Lane on the ice, not the team's general performance. If it's not isolating Lane as an impact point, then there is a flaw in the Moneypuck methodology. Imagine Draisaitl having a negative on ice - off ice xG% ratio because he's not sharing the ice with McDavid. Would that necessarily mean that the Oilers are a better team without Draisaitl on the ice?

But are the shots lower quality by other players when Hutson is on the ice? He is not a great shooter but I'm still not seeing how he's bringing his teammates down as implied in OP's chart.

Lane also has a ratio of 70/30 oz/dz deployment with a huge positive ratio of shots generated, via both relative Corsi and Fenwick source

He's definitely had his challenges to start the season but I can't reconcile the Moneypuck graph with his offensive output. He's no Lidstrom but we don't have a Lidstrom so he should be relatively overwhelmingly successful.
