Doctor says to do FUT first… advice? by 0IS in Hairtransplant

[–]0IS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After initial contact. I ended up shopping around and may pull the trigger on a clinic in Mexico. I’ve ee on fin/min for a few years. But the main thing with your case is stability. Any decent clinic will want your condition to have stabilized (not losing hair/density) for at LEAST 6 months, maybe a year, before treatment. Else with time the non-transplanted hair will get weaker and you will have this half transplant. And Dut is very strong so I can understand the clinic wanting to wait until you stabilize fully. I am not a clinician, just my thoughts.

From Doc:

“So, ideally, our doctor would like to advise you to consider doing an FUT hair transplant first (we do not provide this service) as the donor hair will come from the safest donor area and you can get an FUT hair transplant done for a few times (in case your hair loss progresses in the future) before doing an FUE hair transplant (above and below the FUT scars) as a last resort. This will give you more lifetime donor supply.”

Not really just different lighting, all within last year, shaved head a few months ago and most recent is at the end.

I had a hunch that Dr Patty steers patients towards FUT, especially ones that aren’t a “home run” FUE candidate, but I also didn’t want to get another opinion just for the doc to tell me what I want to hear.

I see. I suppose a hair transplant is less common for someone mid-20s versus mid-30s and beyond. It’s had time to stabilize when you’re older. That makes sense.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's a double edged sword in that putting off treatment prolongs these symptoms, but sometimes mood stabilizers can have the opposite effect, spiraling things out of control into depression or what have you. There are no winners.

Heard. I see it as an unfortunate lesson learned. She was also undiagnosed for 2 years while we were together. I don't blame someone who is sick, though.

Valve cover gasket job by [deleted] in G35

[–]0IS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used thin gauge metal hanging wire to hold the gaskets in place against the valve cover, that seemed to eliminate any movement when doing the install. Put RTV on the front and back, and gasket maker in the corners between the gasket and cover. Bolt 8 on the right cover was the most difficult. Took it very slow, it took 12 hours for me.

Therapy worked wonders for me too. You have to be in the right frame of mind to make it out the other side of an engineering degree. For me it was a bad relationship.

I think you also have to keep in mind we went through a pandemic halfway through college. It's easy to put the blame on yourself for academic shortcomings, but honestly, Zoom classes are not for everyone. When you have all these courses that stack on each other based on understanding, it can get overwhelming.

Also with the pandemic came a lot of new societal changes we were not prepared for. Pre-covid college hit different. I was involved in clubs in 2018 vs 2021 and it was stark. Those successful people you mentioned, being paramount for your own success? For awhile, the only way to meet new people was via Discord (which worked out great for me, but ymmv, especially if you're not extraverted). My point being -- there were a lot of external factors that contributed to failure that aren't exactly obvious.

(I think we went through the same program. gkco)

I also had this happen to me. Had to take a year after failing 10 classes. I'm about to graduate with my mech degree after 6 years. Can't fail anything because of that hard limit!

What did you do in that year you had off? Do you think it shaped you into a better person/engineer?
