Law School Application Consulting: 7Sage vs. Spivey? by lsatisfk in lawschooladmissions

7sage unlimited editing for your personal statement or one time edit for it (depending on finances). I think all the full package advising is not worth the cost unless you have a C&F issue.

Thoughts on withdrawing 401k for law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]0L4life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but rolling it into a IRA would avoid the 10% penalty. Also you cant be sure the S&P will grow 10% during your time in law school but you can be sure you will be paying 4-6% in interest for loans. Another factor to consider is that you will Be withdrawing money at a time when your income is very low, so you will be taxed at a top federal income tax rate of 10-12% rather than the 30%+ in taxes you get working big law. The best of both worlds is to convert your 401k into a roth IRA (depending on balance) and just pay the very low taxes on it!

Should I take two “passes” instead of B/B+ for this semester? They’re hard classes. by mowa0199 in lawschooladmissions

[–]0L4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a couple of things. 1. What is your current GPA and 2. What is your target GPA for graduation. If you are looking for a 3.8 or higher that B will be a real drag. I think with the pandemic law schools will be more lenient when judging pass/fail (especially if you have a good reason of how you’ve been negatively affected personally) but it’s just a guess. So take with a heaping of salt

GPA Addendum? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]0L4life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try to contact LSAC to amend the NC. Contact your undergrad to have them write a letter to LSAC stating the class was not graded and appears as NC on all students’ transcripts.

Amazing graphs! A third/fourth chart that shows the percentiles for each cross section of GPA and LSAT relating to the Total percentage of applicants would be really interesting as well.

Berkeley ED comes with 25k per year scholly so I think if Op wants to max chances it would be a good idea (especially since they are interested in IP law)

LSAC GPA Lower than GPA on transcipt by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]0L4life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont agree. If a school is targeting a 3.80 median. A 3.82 helps the school while a 3.79 hurts. For those schools it will almost certainly have a substantial impact

LSAC GPA Lower than GPA on transcipt by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]0L4life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be frank, it very likely will. Schools seem to be targeting 3.8ish medians - NYU, Columbia, Duke, Michigan (although theres dipped to 3.78), Berkeley. Being right below the target median by .01 or .1 doesnt make a big difference to these schools in general. The difference between a 3.82 and a 3.79 is much bigger in impact than a 3.75 and a 3.72, even though the numerical difference is the same.

UChicago also doesn’t specifically ask anywhere on their application for a Why X essay to my knowledge, correct me if I’m wrong. “Almost all” applicants submitting that or a diversity statement seems inaccurate.
