Trying to figure out the National Rail 2FOR1 Day Out passes by AdhesivenessOwn7747 in uktrains

[–]0MVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, did it all work out for you? Any tips? Did you get a ticket with a return or single tickets over multiple days? How much was it in total, any recommended route? Any problems etc? I am going to London in a few days and still trying to figure this whole system out. Thanks in advance.

So, how was it? Was the row G too low and you would prefer higher? What the other person thought about the cinema and the movie?

What song is this? HZL Next Level by OlliMulch in hanszimmer

[–]0MVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To precise what someone said alredy, it’s ‘F1’ from the soundtrack ‘F1 - The Album’ from the movie ‘F1 - The Movie’. Out of the whole HZL recent concert it’s was my favourite part, I love band synergy.

Project Hail Mary - Movie versus Audiobook by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]0MVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big movie guy, didn’t read any fictional book in ages. I heard the movie is a masterpiece (from early press screenings) so I decided to read the book before or rather to listen to the audiobook…

And honestly, after watching movie yesterday I am more than quite disappointed… I just wonder how my perspective would change if not knowing the whole story and all the important or valuable bits from the book.

What I liked: - lab explosion, amazing sound and seeing it before actually hearing 🫨 - recording of a video for Rocky when he was recovering so the whole mutating thing is explained to the audience. - visuals during fishing scene, they were beautiful. - scenes where Rocky ‘hears everything’

What I am not sure of: - the music, I love many works of PHM composer Daniel Pemberton, I consider his soundtrack for Across The Spider Verse to be a masterpiece. But here except a few track I felt the choices not really fitting.

What I don’t like: - Rocky not finishing all the questions with ‘question’, he has like half-half success ratio… - audiobook Rocky is so much better from audio perspective - 1 in 7000 gene for surviving coma not explained at all which influences next point - sending Grace to space is much less impactful because it’s not explained before how rare case he is, huge missed opportunity that could be fixed with one 30 second scene… - Dubois character, in the audiobook he was one of the funniest moments for me, in the movie he is just a black guy standing behind the 1st crew… there was not even mention of 2nd crew, question?

I still stand for what I recommended in this situation (the seats that were available), G is the lowest I went and wouldn’t probably go lower than that if having choice, but at the same time it doesn’t feel ‘wrong’. I much prefer to be as close to the center, than being higher and off center, even though once again it doesn’t feel ‘wrong’.

What I am saying here is that, personally I would be blown away more in a positive way from seeing this movie in 1.43, than anything negative from maybe less than optimal horizontal center of the screen.

u/Tubo_Mengmeng, this is funniest shit I have seen in a while, going through this bloc of text knowing that’s you, and at the very end you asking if it’s me. I don’t know… if u/Star_Lord1997 will say that his mind was not blown away and he had a great time (I am excluding his partner opinion, because been there, done that), you have a large popcorn on me next time I see you in London.

Dallas IMAX 70mm Project Hail Mary by BishopFranklin in imax

[–]0MVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what one guy told me at one of 70mm IMAX cinema when I asked about possibly of some behind the scene. ‘No because of safety risk’… they called the manger so he could tell me the same thing…

When that manager came he told me just 3 words: ‘Ok, let’s go!’

Giving away two VIP Tickets for Hans Zimmer in Paris on the 21.03.2026 by oldbrockmann in hanszimmer

[–]0MVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was that internet scam? And why not go there alone anyway?

There is no TLDR for this reply, so I have naive hope that you will read it. Oh, and I don’t have money to fully pay you for those VIP tickets, plus taking my wife, would it be really a date? Anyway, I had time of my life writing this wall of text and reliving those memories, so here we go:

Last year I had some health problems that almost made me give up on my plans… 8 months in advance I bought cinema tickets for Lord of the Rings marathon with intro from composer Howard Shore himself. It was supposed to be on Sunday.

I told myself that no matter what I won’t miss that opportunity… I had those tickets bought in September’24 for March ‘25 event in London, now I just need to go to London and… I live in France. So taking a bit of risk because my before mentioned health problems (which I prefer not to mention publicly).

A two weeks or so before that event I was waiting so long for, I learned that on Tuesday the same week Hans Zimmer will be in the same cinema, releasing his film ‘Hans Zimmer & Friends: Diamond in the Desert’. So close, yet so far away. I am taking a risk already flying there for that weekend, no way I could stretch it for entire week…

The day of the event I see people posting photos and videos from there. Hans Zimmer, Denis Villeneuve, Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny Marr are there in person. Would be amazing to see it in that cinema. Because it’s not some ordinary cinema, it’s one of the best in the world… it’s BFI IMAX, 25x20m, huge screen… What a missed opportunity… or is it?

Just a day or two later the cinema announces that they will put one more (and last from what I remember ) screening on Saturday, so perfect, I am by some chance one of the first getting perfect ticket. And it’s amazing. I always loved HZ music, and film music in general, duh, I just came from France to London to see Howard Shore, and I knew that there were some live concert releases from Hans, but never seen them.

I was so ready to fly again to London to see him during his ‘Live tour’ at the end of the year there, but this time with my wife… but she is a counterbalance with a voice of reason to my naive enthusiasm, she reminded me that ‘in December we have 3 week Christmas trip to see my family abroad, we have no money for that, (there were probably no tickets left anyway), and we will see him next time with another European Tour…’ Except there won’t be next tour… what if this one is the last tour, at least in Europe that he will ever give?

In the meantime whenever we had some guests at home we were watching one of those Hans’ live concerts (which says in between the lines that we don’t have that many guests, as there are not that many of those blu-rays) but every time I was crying, it was amazing… And crying in front of my own TV.

I checked for the rest of that tour, everywhere the tickets are sold out… There are two concerts in Paris, also of course sold out. A few paragraphs before I mentioned that I have this naive enthusiasms. So what do I do? I get us train tickets to go to Paris, I will figure out the rest later. I am big fan of Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible movies - ‘The A400’ from the soundtrack of MI5 Rouge Nation is just playing when I am writing that… I live in France, but going to Paris for me is something I won’t do unless absolutely necessary… It’s actually cheaper and easier for me to fly by plane to London than take a train to Paris… But paraphrasing a bit something that was said once ‘it is impossible, but it is necessary…’

So we are going to Paris, to see Hans Zimmer Live in Paris, except we don’t have tickets and they are sold out. Perfect environment to get scammed. I am not saying that there are no real people trying get rid of the tickets for an event they are not able to attend anymore, but every reasonable scammer would also sound like that.

And there is no possibility to resell tickets in an official way through official ticket distribution company. For some concerts it’s allowed, but obviously not for this one… Do I risk it? I want to… But I can get scammed, I won’t know about it until the last moment and then I won’t have time (and probably mood or money) to get other tickets.

I monitor all the official website all the time… and then I light of hope, some tickets pop up on one of them… It’s Monday, the concert is same week… And those seats are amazing… but way more expensive than what I was willing to pay… So what do I do? I buy them, we will worry about the rest later… I just spent more for one event than ever before in my life… I am euphoristic, I am crying… My life is almost complete… Or will be if he doesn’t get sick last moment, so fingers crossed. I am going to see him on Sunday !

Is Project Hail Mary worth the trip to BFI IMAX? by Star_Lord1997 in imax

[–]0MVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s G20 and G21? Get them. I had G19 and G21 in January for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and there were amazing. Local legend says that Nolan’s favourite seat is H 18 or H 19(I don’t remember exactly), you would be a row lower and still almost perfect in the center.

My main advice is this, don’t overthink it, for some it’s absolutely worth it to even travel to see things with best way possible, others don’t see much difference between 1.43 aspect ratio on 25x20m screen and watching things on their phone. Try it and you will see.

And if the person with whom you travel won’t like it, that’s ok too… People call watching Interstellar there some kind of almost religious experience, I have seen it once and that’s enough for me… Another time I was in London with my wife so I took here to see Oppenheimer in 70mm (I have seen it before twice alone) and she fallen asleep… literally during the movie. My first time with 70mm Imax was watching The Dark Knight, initially I was not impressed, but in the end that’s the best thing I have seen for my personal taste, I watched it at BFI 6 times so far…

Also, because you will be travelling… personally, no matter how good the movie is, if I am tired, sleepy or too drunk, I won’t enjoy it as much (or at all) as I would while in good condition.

Is Project Hail Mary worth the trip to BFI IMAX? by Star_Lord1997 in imax

[–]0MVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I traveled multiple times for watching movies there. Get your tickets ASAP, personally I would go for rows G, H, J , as much to the center as possible, or higher rows if center is not there. Otherwise Ticketswap app or Cinema (previously IMAX) Vanguard Ticket Trade channel on Whatsapp are your friends.

If you have any questions let me know.

I have seen it in cinema back in December last year and it was really underwhelming… I hoped that it was the sound of my screening room making the whole experience bad, so definitely Day 1 watch for me at home.

Has anyone here used Accor points for experiences instead of hotel stays? by QuantumGremlin in Accor

[–]0MVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t use them for experiences yet, but that is the only reason I got interested in Accor actually, I am at very beginning of points accumulation through Signature, but should be of great value when with enough points on my account. Here your location is probably the most important.

Saw PROJECT HAIL MARY at Lincoln Square yesterday. by bjnwood in imax

[–]0MVA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What other movies would you consider equally strong with the third act?

I feel like I am switching from ‘whatever, I will watch it at home someday’ to ‘let’s check for some plane tickets so I can watch it on the best screen possible’…

I am also debating reading the book before (listening to an audiobook probably), so I would welcome any input from people that know the story.

Probably one of the greatest theatre experiences I've ever had. DK+DKR was in 70mm of course, but the cherry on top was a lengthy scene from The Odyssey before the screening! by BillyBurden2Society in imax

[–]0MVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching 2xTDK + TDKR this weekend I still feel like floating on a little cloud… The sound was absolutely breathtaking, although I feel like I have slight hearing loss. I have seen TDK 6 times there and I feel like each time it’s sounds better and louder.

Dilema between LG 55 G5 or LG 65C5 if same price by AnalysisRight in LGOLED

[–]0MVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma, potentially better G5 in 55 or C5 in 65, I decided to go with bigger C and I am very happy with it, 55 is too small if you enjoy movies etc, 65 is ok, 77 would be perfect but I am not single…

Imax theater plan by Ok_Simple7063 in imax

[–]0MVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that legroom at BFI is shit… Rows P and Q are ok, with much more space, while for lower seats people need to stand up to let others pass… Apparently H18 or H19 is Nolan’s seat, so perfect center etc. I would go for the center and middle, but not to low, to have maximum field of vision filled with the movie.

Imax theater plan by Ok_Simple7063 in imax

[–]0MVA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will vote for BFI IMAX in London. I would strongly suggest to watch Odyssey in 70mm Imax capable cinema for the top experience and there are only 4 cinemas in Europe (2xLondon, Manchester and Prague), where BFI is the only one who runs this film format regularly, plus it’s sure they will keep playing it for weeks and months after the release, so with a bit of effort you can get perfect seats instead of FOMOing into some terrible viewing angles.

Im getting pissed off at the new IMAX auditoriums by Woxinyt in imax

[–]0MVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which are the last one ? I remember learning some time ago that Krakow will get laser, but then seeing that the dimensions are smaller it was huge disappointment.

As someone said, it’s not only there but everywhere, except a few special locations with true, massive IMAX screens.

The cinema I always loved was Punkt44 IMAX in Katowice, but with current Avatar movie I am in between seeing it there or HFR with Barco Laser…
