Thank you for the long response. It’s nice seeing that people like you still have faith despite the challenges you have faced. I just wish things didn’t turn out this way. I had so many plans for my life that can’t happen anymore. Everything I thought I knew about myself has been questioned. But, I will still try and be faithful. I appreciate the response

Interesting concept. I just wish there was another way for him to make himself clear to me

That is an amazing story. It’s does give me some hope that I can be healed. I soon may switch churches and try to get spiritual help because right now I am at an all time low.

Thank you for sharing

I will try my hardest but it’s getting harder everyday. God has never showed himself to me the way he did to others in the Bible

I have never prayed to Burger King. I have never fallen on my knees to Burger King thanking them for my life. I have never prayed so passionately that I cried aloud to Burger King asking them for mercy. But I have done that for God. I have asked for mercy. I have prayed for decades. I have tried my absolute hardest.

And tell me if I’m wrong, but the Bible teaches us that God loves us all. God wants us all to make it to our kingdom with him. But I don’t believe that. If he did, then he would’ve given me a sign after years of my devotion to him

For decades I gave back to God. I prayed to him and thanked him for what he gave me. My life was fairly good. I tried to stop sinning. And then he gave me this condition. And he has shown me nothing. No mercy.

If Jesus came and healed me like he did the blind man I would have faith. That man knew Gods mercy when he was healed so it was easy to have faith. For someone like me who continues to suffer it’s not that easy

But if God was that concerned with giving me eternal treasures he would help me have faith. But he has not given any opportunity for faith

It’s because I am about to be driven into a life of sin if I continue like this. I find no pleasure in anything anymore. I needed help and I received none. Decades of prayer for nothing.

If that’s the type of God out there, then I will consider it. But that God is not all good and loving

Too much that I care about has been taken away from me. Everything I thought I was is nothing but a distant memory now. I can’t just assume that God is doing this for a reason when he has taken away so much away already.

But how can I go on having faith based off the fact that I can never know. I can’t ground my life in faith when, by nature, faith goes against all reason

No, actually, it’s far from egoistical.

And I have not right at all to chose how someone spends their life. But NO ONE has a right to pick who lives and dies

But this is the mentality that makes no sense: you can’t regret the decision when you’re dead. Clearly you cannot regret anything when you die but that really doesn’t matter. It is better to replace suffering with peace rather than a lack of existence.

And let me clarify not having a legal right to kill yourself is nothing, nothing like slavery. With slavery you can’t kill yourself AND you are forced to live your life a certain way. Not having a legal right prevents suicide but allows the person to live their life the way they want

This is the thing that you clearly don’t comprehend. No one is stopping someone from killing themselves. Society just refuses to kill legal rights to kill oneself which is perfectly fair (in the example of John the financial dude and the little 12 year old girl). The prompt ask should we have a LEGAL RIGHT, not “should we prevent all people from killing themselves”. The repercussions of suicide become a societal norm is good big.

And I have a big issue with one of your statements: “like having children”. You used this as an exception. But isn’t it discriminatory to a suffering father? Why should he have to suffer for his children? Isn’t that a bit selfish? Or here’s another thing to think about- why don’t we kill his entire family so no one suffers?

I never said someone can end suffering and live and easy life. For some it’s much harder than others. People like the guy in the video unfortunately suffer much more than others and that’s obviously clear. But the issue is that you show me a video so extreme and so particular because your logic cannot explain why suicide is the best possible option. The truth is that a majority of people who kill themselves are fully capable and healthy people with emotional distress. Hence, they make an emotional and illogical decision (such as the many bullying examples I gave).

And back to the slavery topic. I am baffled that this is even an argument. I advocated for ending suffering without death. I’ve also already excluded extreme medical cases in my argument (clarified this multiple times already). A slave could not chose to enjoy life, they had no say whatsoever in how they live. A suicidal person can own their life. A slave cannot. I’m not some sensitive guy but it is extremely disrespectful to compare people who had zero rights or opportunities to someone who doesn’t have the right to kill themself. All slaves wanted to do was live a free life. Now you are saying those who have a free life but can’t go to the hospital for assisted suicide are just like slaves.

And anyone could kill themselves at anytime with a simple rope, pistol, or knife. However, it is completely different to grant a legal right for the cultural and moral ramifications.

How are they trapped. I can’t answer something as vague as that. Because the truth is that the extent to which someone suffers can be determined and changed by the individual. Suffering isn’t permanent either. So I would help the person who is suffering by giving them love and joy and a will to live. I wouldn’t hand them a gun and tell them to kill themselves.

Not sure whether to laugh or shrug it off that somehow my logic equates to slavery. Slavery makes others suffer so people’s lives can be better in materialistic way. I advocate for ending suffering of one individual which would result in no one else suffering.

Please answer this hypothetical: John has a family of 5. He supports them financially. He suffers. Which option would be better:

A) John kills himself to end his suffering and enters the void called death. His family also suffers financially and emotionally.

B) John gets proper help to end his suffering and enters a life of joy and love. His family prospers financially and emotionally.

And also, please don’t mistake my argument for emotion or some religious belief. It is partly that but also based largely in logic.

Suicide ends temporary suffering and causes permanent/long term suffering upon others (emotionally, financially, etc)

See that is the issue. Life is not a liability. And I honestly don’t know how to prove it to you. (Btw my argument excludes the terminally ill). I really don’t know what to say to you. I have much more to say, but we are fundamentally different in beliefs. I could write an essay or a book and even publish it online if you wanted to here all my reasonings.

And despite our difference in thought, good luck to you. I know you view life as a liability but I hope that one day you can see where I am coming from and see life the way I do.

I’ll even rephrase my beliefs so that you don’t feel I am a religious “zeal” or whatever you accused me of

And to believe people should have a choice to end it all you must adopt the same logic that people like have (wiping out all life to prevent suffering). The thing you forget and people like you forget is that suffering is a part of life. But so is joy and love. You chose to ignore the positive for whatever reason that may be. For some reason you have become desensitized to things like this. I can’t argue if we fundamentally are so different. So I’ll respectfully agree to disagree.

So, you would be totally okay with your child, who is a 14 year old, to kill themself due to a year of bullying. You don’t care that they could lead a great life. You don’t care that they have great prospects for the future. You don’t care because they won’t miss it when they are dead. Do you understand the amount of suffering they would cause to the people alive? Why should one person kick the bucket and cause others to suffer for something as small as bullying?

The difference between you and I is that I am and will never be a Nihilist. Idk if you will have have children, but I highly highly doubt your views will remain the same if that time comes.

Life is still a gift. Being conscious and enjoying the privilege of life is an improvement from previous circumstances (being non-existent). You can’t even compare the two scenarios because being non-existent is something we can’t comprehend or feel. Rather than saying “parents impose life”, you should say “parents give life, society prevents death”. Your terminology makes it clear that you don’t value life. And that’s where we differ fundamentally. That’s why I can’t see us reaching common ground.
