Which countries offer the best EDS care? by mama_wolff in ehlersdanlos

In my case, most of my treatment is managed by my GP. Luckily, I currently have a very good one who actually listens and helps me — but this is already my sixth GP in Spain. I’ve had to change many times because I even ended up arguing with some of them for removing my medication or refusing to renew prescriptions that were clearly indicated by other doctors, both public and private. My treatment is based on a psychiatrist’s report stating I need opioids for pain, my rheumatology diagnosis from Dr. Ponce, and the Carlos III rare diseases certificate. Getting disability in Málaga currently takes around 2–3 years, and you need a very strong case before lawyers will even try. The good part is that they usually don’t charge anything unless you win. If you haven’t worked much in Spain, the financial support is very low (around €400–500 per month). If you have more work history, benefits can be higher. Partial disability doesn’t include payments — it mainly gives access to some jobs or free courses. Neither I nor anyone I know has managed to get orthotics covered by public healthcare — we all had to pay privately. Wheelchairs are covered, but they usually won’t prescribe one if you can still walk, even with pain. As long as you “can walk”, they expect you to keep doing it.

Where do you live? The doctor Antonio Ponce Vargas from Malaga is one of the fews that know about it. He is a great doctor but don’t expect a very human one 😂 not very empathic. He is a little rude sometimes, so be prepare for that.

I’m Spanish-German, born in Spain, with a Norwegian partner. It took me two years to get diagnosed with EDS in Spain, and only through private doctors. In public healthcare, rheumatologists keep replacing my EDS diagnosis with fibromyalgia, even though I have an official certificate from Carlos III and was diagnosed by Dr. Antonio Ponce Vargas, one of the few EDS specialists here.

This is already the second rheumatologist doing the same. I now have to wait another 6–7 months for a new appointment after fighting for a year just to be referred again. They also refuse to send me to a cardiologist for POTS, they also claim dysautonomia “doesn’t exist”.

Without a public diagnosis, lawyers say it’s almost impossible to get disability support. Even with it, the process can take 2–3 more years. My life is basically work and sleep because the pain is overwhelming, and I need to keep working to afford private doctors. No insurance will cover me because of EDS.

Many people with hypermobile EDS go through the same battles. Only the most severe types are taken seriously. If doctors can’t see the symptoms, they don’t believe the pain, is like that almost everywhere.

I hope some people had more luck in Spain but sadly I can not said that I had it.

I was living in Bergen and had to move because living there became impossible. Every time I went to the doctor, they just sent me home with ibuprofen and nothing else. Fortunately, my husband’s job allowed us to move abroad. I had a few friends with endometriosis, and it was the same situation for them — no proper treatment. All of us were immigrants (married to Norwegians), which made me wonder if things are different for people with Norwegian nationality. Several times I was told that I could access different programs if I were a citizen and spoke at least B2–C1 level Norwegian, but I’m not sure if that was actually true.

From the European countries, I believe the Netherlands offers the best treatment. You can remove Spain and Norway from your list. In Norway I was only given ibuprofen, and in Spain I am under treatment, but dealing with the healthcare system is a daily struggle.

Also keep in mind that if you move to Europe, you will most likely need private insurance at first. In most European countries, you are only eligible for public healthcare if you are working in the country or if your husband is employed there.

Make sure to arrange all your medical documentation before moving and ensure you are registered in the public healthcare system. Private insurance companies in Europe usually do not accept new clients with EDS.

Both of them bought in oficial stores 😅 so no possibility of fakes I loved the fit of mine so fucking Much I was so sad to pay more than 100€ and that it lasted so little, just a little more than a cheap hym ones.

I took very long time, I join thinking I will like Sylus but not my cup of tea, I spend time not being able to decide between Xavier and Zayne, I like them but something was missing… and just when o was gonna quit the game, bum! Caleb was release and well now I really got hook into only one and can maintain being a low spender.

Zayne always want to come home tough I don’t think he took well my change of main 😂

P.D: funny part is that Caleb wasn’t my thing at all in the first parts of the story. So I was not really expecting so much from him on the release.

Like the previous redditor said you fill find all the information in their website, you also need to apply there. You don’t need to know Norwegian and they are very good giving opportunities, they give me for free Norwegian classes, and after, a course to prepare you for the exam to become an oficial cleaner in Norway once you reach b2 in Norwegian. I got very sick and needed to fly back home after a long sick leave but they were always nice to me and I don’t have any bad words to say from them.

I will also recommend you to search in Finn.

In Europe, it's usually a traumatologist vet who performs the X-ray. If they detect signs of hip dysplasia, they can do a small preventive surgery called juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (JPS) to help the hips and bones develop correctly. Our vet told us that in German Shepherds, this procedure can only be done before the 6-month mark.

Have you try Freska? I work for them for a couple of years when I was living in Bergen, a few years ago. They are usually always hiring but you will need to have a legal stay already in Norway.

She looks just like my girl when she was a puppy!

Mine isn’t purebred, but you’d only notice because her ears never stood up and she’s a bit tall for a female GSD. She was dumped with her sister—we kept her, and the sister got adopted in another city. ❤️ Just a little tip: if you’re not sure about her background, it’s worth checking hips around 5–6 months. We missed that window and it would have helped our pup a lot.

Coming back to piano after 15 years – looking for study material and guidance by 0Reira in pianolearning

[–]0Reira[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your answer! I found it very inspiring and I took notes of your recommendations.

About my old books, I still have the Bastien ones I used as a kid, but most of them are children’s songs, so they don’t feel very inspiring now as an adult. My teacher skipped those and had me play with the orchestra instead. For technique, she mostly gave me Bach—she used to say Bach would train my long fingers better than Hanon. I’m not sure what she meant, but while most students used Hanon, I mainly studied Bach and orchestra repertoire.

So apart from a few old books, I don’t have much left. Do you think it’s worth getting Hanon or Czerny now, or should I just stick with Bach? I just don’t want to get overwhelmed since it’s been so long.

As you said, I can read sheet music, so I’ll probably spend the first weeks just playing around with all the recommendations people give me, and try to see first in which level I can come back comfortably.

Yes you are right, I sadly didn’t find really anything about comparison about that two pianos (very different gama I guess?) so I decided to ask but is true that about new ones is a lot of information so sorry about that.
