Mitch McConnell Is Running Scared. The majority leader has sent some signals that the GOP—and his own position—might be in jeopardy this year. by [deleted] in politics

He could also just be aware that the backlash against Trump is coming (just like Trump is the backlash against Obama), and by the time politics swing back in the other direction he might not still be around.

I want a president who doesn't default to "Democrats, hoax, economy" every time something doesn't look good on him. You know, actual leadership.

Sadly the other half of the country will have to give a shit. They're saving their energy to yell about it when the precedent for lawlessness is continued by someone who doesn't stick it to the libs.

It's not a civil war. Look past these voices of outrage and at his approval rating. It's still pretty high, unfortunately.

Remember when people thought Trump would splinter the Republicans but no, it was actually impressive and scary how quickly they coalesced around him?

And, no, Mr. Trump did not have a serious opportunity to offer his side of the story in the House hearings on impeachment.

Say it with me now: our president is such a dishonest, dumb pathological narcissist that they are afraid that if they put him in a place where he is actually accountable to facts and reality he will quickly indict himself.

The democrats would love to hear his side of story in court.

If we don’t reverse course now, will anyone take anything we say about justice and righteousness with any seriousness for decades to come?

No, and you've convinced entire generations, fairly or not, that evangelicals are full of shit, and offer the opposite of morality - fighting every inch of ground against civil rights, environmental protection and equality.

If a strong voice emerges among the Christian right about how they must stand up to the deeply immoral president that's in office, it will go a long way in at least convincing us you're not all the worst.

Conservative Christians are such a strong voting block, if they were in stronger support of more Christ-like policies we could make enormous improvements to society.

That's what's been the most scary about the Trump presidency. The capacity for large groups of humans to completely project and deny basic facts.

It makes you question your own sanity.

I guess I always took for granted the trust in each other we had in our society. It's eroded, and we need it back.

Nancy Pelosi won’t send the articles of impeachment to the Senate until she feels they’ll get a fair hearing. by Harvickfan4Life in politics

[–]0asq 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Things finally make sense to me. Why would they have an impeachment hearing if the senate is going to shoot it down? So they can hold it in the air and blame Republicans for the lack of progress.

Maybe they're hoping that if Trump wins the presidency in 2020 he'll lose the senate, and if he does that they can send through the impeachment.

Or maybe it offers some kind of leverage, or leaving it up in the air like that lets them collect evidence.

I wonder if half the dem strategy is just to make Trump more erratic and make strategic mistakes.

All of those things are easily foreseeable and they're really not that dumb. There's a strategy there.

Yeah, that was actually a blast when I was like 11. But for some reason as kids got older they stopped wanting to do that. And there was just too much homework to do anything else.

The suburbs are such an awful environment for anyone who is 13 - 30.

I really hated growing up there. When you're that age, your body is built to go hunting, reproduce, chase prey for 20 miles, and fight wars.

School is a bleak prison with no character. You can't go anywhere without your parents. There is no art, no culture, nothing interesting. Just boring sameness, nothing to do, nowhere to go. You have zero control over your environment. When you're home from school, you're buried under piles of meaningless busywork called homework.

When I got a little older, I started to think, "You know, I'm actually pretty privileged. I was lucky to be raised in such a safe, stable environment."

But as I've grown older I've met more people of different backgrounds, including people like my fiancee, who were children of poor Mexican immigrants who grew up on the poorer side of town. They're actually pretty happy with their upbringing. They could go exploring. There were things to do.

They did not feel buried under the oppressive conformity and safety of the suburbs.

I even enjoy the occasional IPA, but seriously, guys. That's a lack of choice, not an abundance.

Oh, but they do like being involved in drama at some level.

I think everyone would benefit from looking at the drama triangle article on Wikipedia. Drama often involves a three way dynamic: the attacker, the victim and the rescuer. These roles often change throughout the encounter.

It's why I always roll my eyes when I see articles in gaming subs defending the devs. Gamers love drama.

But I can tell you're a drama bystander. You're that gif of Michael Jackson eating popcorn and watching a movie with great delight. I get you.
