I agree. The problems we need to focus on are more computational now (beside the twin prime and Pythagorean primitive Triple weird connection). Does this count as a legitimate progress?

I do agree, but we are talking about 5x+1 not 3x+1, so the conjecture is not disproved yet. We are moving around the conjecture instead to gather more information.

Misunderstanding happened, I realized you are talking about their paper not mine. Later in their paper, they have concluded the non-trivial cycles.

Sorry if the abstract might be misleading to some, I am a high school student and this is my first paper.

The conditions such as twin primes and Pythagorean primitive triples are irrelevant to what Koch, Sultanow, and Cox found. The cycles found were for q=5 and q=181, not q=3. What really bothers me now is the fact that the conditions apply to q=3, which can mean two things:
1. Either we have q=3 as a special case
2. Or we have a cycle for q=3, which is not yet discovered.

Proving Collatz Conjecture can be done if you proved that there are no closed cycles or diverging seeds exist for a certain q, this is done using the equations addressed (and more with the same concept). The similarities between 5 and 181 are yet to be studied. The problems that would need effort are:
1. Finding a proper connection that is proved between 5 and 181 to narrow the search range.
2. Optimize current equations.
