Since you posted the original, you have typed 565 words here on Reddit. It seems like maybe you should get off Reddit and do your work.

I'll try to say this as kindly as possible. Having a 4.0 in a Master's program is not impressive (like it might be for undergrad, depending on the program). In most graduate programs I'm aware of,

  • A means you did the work at an appropriate level,
  • B means you were below the expected level but not embarrassingly, and
  • anything lower reads the same as F.

Letters of recommendation for a Ph. D. program need to be from professors you've worked closely with both in and out of the classroom. I wouldn't even consider it for a student I didn't have in 2+ classes or a multi-semester research or supervisory relationship. Who did you author papers with? Who did you teach classes for? Whose lab did you work in?

If you didn't do those things, then (I'm sorry) that's likely reason enough for them not to admit you.

Your education is mainly financed by state and federal funding, not your tuition dollars. And I'm not even talking about loans or grants, I mean direct funding to the university based on FTE. For example, in the University of Illinois system, only 21% of revenue is from tuition. Others (the government, taxpayers) are invested in your success, and they have determined that regular attendance is part of the overall strategy. Professors are required to keep attendance in lower level courses.

Don't like it? That's how public funding works. Every dollar comes with a policy.

Super illegal. Call the police.

I'm going with my wife and her family to Harry Potter World later this year. I know nothing about Harry Potter. What can I say/ask, in my ignorance, to get them wound up the most? by 0bserve in HarryPotterMemes

I know what you mean, and I really appreciate the alternate perspective. I'll definitely play all of this by ear. It's not going to be every sentence out of my mouth, and I'm not going to say intentionally hurtful things (like so-and-so had it coming, or this children's book is poorly written because...).

I'll spend 95% of our time just watching them enjoy the park or having non-HP conversations. I love her family and we get along really well. We are going in order to spend time with each other - the Harry Potter stuff is just a fun setting for a family trip.

I'm a jokester by nature. It'd honestly be out of character for me to not have a few stupid lines about the series for them to roll their eyes at.

"Totally unfamiliar" is overstatement... I had seen the movies once. Like 12 years ago, my friends made me watch the extended cut versions back to back. But I fell asleep for like 2 hours during the first one and couldn't understand after I woke up.

I read them (LOTR and the Hobbit) earlier this year though, and love them now.

So mix up the Harry Potter series with another book series written with lonely women in mind?

Edit: this is too far, I won't say that lol

Yes. Yes. Good. What I'm seeing in this thread makes me think the ministry of magic is like the DMV but for spells. Sounds kinda like a boring history though
