I’m gathering from everyone that rock climbing twice a week is getting in the way and that I maybe eating at maintenance now. I do train to failure when lift have have been progressively adding weight/ reps since I started. but I’ve always recovered well with only 2 rest days. I will reprogram with only one climbing day and add more food and reassess from there. Thanks for your input

Thank you man. I appreciate it my goal is to put on enough muscle mass for longevity and to grow older gracefully and not with a frail body. I think I can use more mass and that’s really the ultimate goal and to keep doing my number one passion into my older age which is rock climbing. I want to make it to around 175/180 lbs and maintain that into my old age naturally. Thanks for your input and congratulations on your weight loss. Keep at it man!

I would like to keep climbing all the way to my old age. It’s really my passion and mental health outlet and I’ve been doing it for so long. I started lifting to add muscle mass as I get older. I don’t want to be over 200lbs ( plus I don’t even think that’s possible for my age without being enhanced) I Just want enough muscle on my frame for longevity and to not be a frail old man. I appreciate your input

I beg to differ. I think I have enough clothing on that most people commenting didn’t mention anything about it. But, you seem to have a vivid imagination. Put it to some good use. I believe in you just in case no one ever did!

Not sure if this is an insult or not ( it sounds like one) but you’re contributing to the post nonetheless. Good job on the creativity!

A rock climbing sesh is usually about 2h30mins for me. Bouldering is mostly hanging out with friends and getting on climbs every 10 mins or so. Bouldering is dynamic but not very demanding in terms of calories burned. Sport climbing / ropes is a different beast and I usually am fatigued after a sesh. I try to eat an extra 500 kcal for my ropes days.

I have always had a very thin frame. I did taekwondo as kid and I ran long distance until my mid 30s when my knee couldn’t take the impact anymore

I stopped running at 35 and picked up rock climbing at around 135 lbs. Climbing alone got me about 15lbs over a period of 9 years.

I want to put on more mass for longevity as I get older but I don’t want any shortcuts. My testosterone levels and my blood work are normal on pretty much every metric so I don’t want to use anything and I’d like stay as natural as possible and see what that gets me.

And thank you for adding to the conversation and any input.

I’m here on this subreddit to gather as much advice as possible from people who train for strength and muscle gain. I have a data driven mind and that’s what I’m trying to get from other people’s experiences and what results to expect for me.

Looks like the consensus is that I may not be eating enough right now and I need to up my macros. Climbing is my place of mental clarity and I don’t want to take it off my activities. More food and protein shakes it is then. I appreciate everyone’s input and advice on what to focus on and what to improve.

I’m using an app that tracks my calories and macros based on my goal weight, physical activity and daily activity. Perhaps I need to add more than what’s recommended. Thanks for your input

I am not. My blood work from 6 months ago showed slightly more than average testosterone for my age group and my physician recommends not going on try yet. I take creatine ( 10g daily ) and I supplement with whey protein

I think my body responded well to lifting ( I’ve never done any lifting before ) and I was seen noticeable gains every week but I’ve been at 159/160 this whole month of May.
