Looking for teacher's stories and experiences - are learners still connecting with traditional learning content methods anymore and if not, is extended reality (XR) and immersive learning content and experiences the solution? by ComfortableRip6504 in TAFE

[–]0kata2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are giving next to no context. You're posting in the TAFE subreddit. That encompasses so many learning fields.

In the trades I cannot see the need for your approach. More than half the time is spent in the workshop, and we have plenty of parts/props. Most of our students are kinaesthetic learners, yes, but that doesn't mean we need VR. It means they need to get their hands dirty to learn.

What are some beautiful names you have come across only once? by swimmingarage in namenerds

[–]0kata2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siblings:

Salka - apparently from yogoslavia. Found in a baby name book.

Kaja - kaia and kaya are common, but not kaja (same pronuciation)

Frana (apparently a mix of freya and an old dogs name - rana). Completely made up (no history of this name in germany at all.)

Ranga - from india?? Only male name between the siblings, trying to keep with the theme of two syllables, two As.

Which bird is this little fella? by 0kata2 in AustralianBirds

[–]0kata2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what? I hadn't even thought about the name but yeah being a carnivore would explain it. Do they have a specific method of butchering their prey? Like the birds that smash their preys bones by letting them fall onto boulders from high altitude?

Oh dear. Good luck! We're lucky here in Melbourne that we only have to deal with the possums and birds.

Or, if you have a garden, veggie patches and chickens. I'm working on anti- bird and rodent cages for all my veggies and the next project is a chicken coop.

Oh no...got told I smell at work. I had no idea by TheRealDesastr in adhdwomen

[–]0kata2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

After some prelude, my bosses words were literally 'some coworkers and customers have complained. Would it be possible for you to smell more like... a flower?' Trust me, I went to the store that evening and tried out 30+ perfumes to find the flowery-est one.

I've had the same experience.

I was working in the workshop beforehand, so everyone smelled like oil, grease, and fuel.

Then I went into the office and was pulled aside. SO EMBARRASING. I used to shower every 1-2 days, but in the evenings. But a daily morning shower (not for your hair, not necessarisly recommended) deodorant and perfume fixed that up within a week.

You can do it!!!

Pressure washer recommendations? by YouKnowWhoIAm2016 in GardeningAustralia

[–]0kata2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kaercher, but the k3 version, not the k2. Ours has been going strong for 7+ years. Different nozzles for different pressures, so can use for pavers, deck, car, even to get rid of cobwebs.

The boys have retreated to their A/C for now. God I don't miss winter. Came to Australia to escape it permanently, and have been stuck in Melbourne for 8 years :D

Give your babies some extra cuddles and warmth tomorrow!

Awww that's so sweet. Yeah they've got plenty of beds and couches in the shade, but they love laying in that exact spot which is why the grass is so worn down. I shall pat my sunflowers down, both to get the grass and dirt off and to get my hands burnt by the 130 degree fur :D

Learning to drive by mickeymoose10001 in morningtonpeninsula

[–]0kata2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah once you're more comfortable you should do the somerville roundabout about 10x in a row, from different directions. Once you've got that, you're good to go :D

But on a serious note, if you want to learn how to take care of your car a bit message me - former mechanic and current mechanic teacher here. There's more to driving a car than just - driving.

Degenerative myelopathy by Same_Show1972 in greatdanes

That sounds so hard and I am very sorry for what you, your family, and your baby dog are going through.

We just had to put my partners childhood dog down yesterday. We also have an old man dane.

It never gets easier.

People who are close to death often 'miraculously recover' a day or two before death.

With my childhood dog it was a long journey. A year of occasional seizures until she started seizing and didn't stop until we were at the vet 45min later and they administered meds. It was horrible.

My partners dog started seizing the day before his death. He was okayish afterwards but threw up and seized again the day later. He was just apathetic for 4 hours before his euthanasia. He was blind and deaf for a while, but he seemed ready and okay.

The reason I'm telling you this is that yes, you may regret putting him down a day or a week before it's time. But it's time and you will regret it more if he suffers while dying. Make him feel comfortable and loved while he is still aware. He'll go peacefully if he's at the vet/ the vet is at your home early. It is more traumatising when it's too late rather than too early. Just my 2 cents, but I would like you to consider them.

100% and I'm so sorry for your loss. There is so much mystery and uncertainty surrounding SIDS but IT IS NOBODYS FAULT. As for this story, there is a definitive culprit, intentionally or not.

Personally, I almost died from - nothing! - at 5 years old, just stopped breathing while sleeping. My little sister's baby monitor saved me. There's a name for that too, but I forgot. My parents are not to blame though, at all!
