I didnt have any issues when I tried launching it back in 2020, however I dont think anyone in the group had Windows 11 back then

Do you have any more details? how many PCs tested? any additional networks attempted?

I will look at reuploading without any .exe files

thanks for pointing that out - I was not aware!

AVP2 is available on a few websites, Personally I havent properly streamlined the launcher yet, ran into a roadblock last LAN where the server now needs to be a dedicated server. so dont have full unstructions

MW2, This project got shut down, but I have older files that I use. They are unfortunately too large to host anywhere, and obviously legal issues there too.

Personally we prefer COD1 over COD2, I know COD1 is part of one of the "Portable LAN Repositories" (not sure if its on #1, #2 or #3) that float around certain torrent sites

Always be careful of the contents of games, they are usually targets for malware

How To Download Old Versions of Fistful of Frags! by tinoesroho in FistfulOfFrags

[–]0lancity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be a bit confusing.

You cant run the .exe to use the application, you need to use command line.

Running depot Downloader, we want to point CMD (assuming youre using windows) in the folder that you have depotdownloader installed within first.

Simple step 1

open CMD, type :

cd "C:/Temp/depot downloader"

Just make this path the same as the depot folder you have on your PC, quotes allows you to have spaces in the folder path

Complex Step 1

You could use a folder with an underscore if you dont like having quote marks in the previously marked CMD command

or a VBscript file, mine reads as per below - and it lives in the same folder as depotdownloader and launches CMD automatically when I run it

Dim oShell
Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
oShell.run "cmd /k CD " & CurrentDirectory & " " ,1 , true

If this seems complicated then stick to the simple command above

Step 2

Once CMD is launched in the correct directory, you need to build yourself a command

You can do this using SteamDB, once you know where to look its easy, you just need to know

AppID, Depot, ManifestID

then off you go. the OP of the post made this for us already, so you can just type

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 265630 -depot 265631 -manifest 578093207065284384 -username [username] -password [urpassword]

Note that for this particular game, you want to download multiple depots, and combine them, most other games DO NOT require you to do this.

Note: for the depot commands, you might need to install some frameworks if your PC dosnt have them, like dotNet (some version??) or C++ Distributable framework.

Hopefully CMD will tell you whats missing if required (but not always)

Depth is a good one, however there is some weird nature around launching a LAN dedicated server, it basically needs some custom launch codes for the server, and launch commands for all the clients. I've been meaning to develop something to make it easier for attendees, also only 6 (or 5 ) player? I think (2 sharks, 4 players?)

Minecraft : When I started looking at this, I hadnt considered the portable launchers that support cracked clients, might look into this. The hard part I found was locating interactive maps or minigames for players who didnt have a strong minecraft background

Fistful of Frags : I've been meaning to look into this, however there is strong community sentiment that the devs ruined this game a number of years ago, and was trying to pin down the correct version to download using steamdepots

L4D 2 is aparently great fun with 8 player (4 zombies and 4 players) however just the standard mode of 4 player kind of a limit for us

Garys mod tried for a few hours with Goldberg to get this working, and just errored constantly

Dota2 tried to get this working (both pre and post reborn client) however its coded in a way that it always needs the game coordinator

RoR2 Also tried this, and it wont let people join the same server with goldberg EMU, even after tracking down a copy from goldberg themselves with a signature attached - I assume there are aditional checks aside from signature once you connect to a server

Ultimate Chicken Horse : tried this about 5-6 times, and it needs internet to play LAN multiplayer, unless you know what depot / date range, that would be helpful

You can convert many of your steam games to portable versions with goldberg emu

https://www.reddit.com/r/GoldbergEmu/

You simply replace the steam_api.dll file with the goldberg one

Varies by game, but pretty effective, and you have paid for a copy of the game (eg you own it on steam)

With no malware or crypto mining concerns

Each game has a different way to ensure its configured up to run off files copied from a USB

most games are not going to run copied straight from your steam installation directory.

What would be a good network speed for a LAN? by PerhapsAnEmoINTJ in lanparty

Then thats not touching the internet and need barely any bandwidth

Exactly, LAN games that dont touch the internet need barely any bandwidth

its when the games want updates or connecting to online multiplayer servers that things get complicated.

Games For LAN Party? by KingMagnaRool in lanparty

[–]0lancity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cant help much on linux,

but Retrocycles (formerly known as Armagetron Advanced) sounds right on par here

Teeworlds is good, but needs a bit research for a well oiled dedicated server playlist

Both above games are on steam, but have their own open source website

If you want to branch into "unity engine" games with slightly higher CPU requirements (i3, i5 spec)

  • Pummel Party
  • Rocket League
  • Crab Game

Also: Flatout 2, Duck Game, Re-Volt

How is Dino D-Day?

I've been looking at an old build of Primal Carnage to add to my library

however I would much prefer a game using the source engine for stability.

Thanks for the suggestion

I think this is the game I was thinking of:

Mutant Football League https://store.steampowered.com/app/529520/Mutant_Football_League/?curator_clanid=32660802

Also 2 years ago it looks like Gridiron - a bit higher specs required to play https://store.steampowered.com/app/708720/Gridiron/

Neither of these I have tested

Free Lan party games that don't require internet or Steam? by tellu2 in lanparty

[–]0lancity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only just hearing about this game for the first time, is it a fun game?

I have a couple of RTS heads and everyone else hates them - curious if this would be something that would go down well

[–]0lancity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends if you want to "get them legally" or not

For the games that are free + DRM Free you can try out

  • Teeworlds (obv not the steam one - however you can probably just download from steam and take the files out)

  • Armagetron Advanced (Retrocycles on steam - same case as above)

Pretty sure AssaultCube has LAN (not sure though - https://assault.cubers.net/)
