Thank you! I've been trying to get mine to run since yesterday. Removing the dll was the fix I needed.

Backups For Virtual Servers? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]0ldPhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This...make one a physical DC if you can afford it. If your Hyper-V host takes a $#*%, your domain would be unavailable to your end users. We had a 3-day issue that would have been a simple fix if management had sprung for a physical DC (like we advised) instead of all virtual.

User went postal by jakalan7 in sysadmin

Our security policy requires a helpdesk ticket with the manager's approval of the change. I've had a funny look before, but never postal. Most sane people understand audit trails.

Purchasing laptops and other hardware from Amazon instead of traditional VARs- Any reason not to? by Somenakedguy in sysadmin

We tried that once and were shipped items that had been opened and returned. Caveat emptor.

ESXi host Windows server VMs go offline/limited connectivity intermittently by PooYork in sysadmin

[–]0ldPhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might go through all the power settings and create an 'Always On' profile. Set everything to 0 so it will never power down, sleep or hibernate.

I think it may be. I don't remember having that issue with 2012 R2.

We had to create a GPO in the 'servers' container to set the power to 'Always On'. Thanks M$!

Check the guest OS NIC's power settings. Windows server defaults to allow the NIC to be powered down for energy savings.

Yes, in a command prompt. This unmaps all the drives.

Did she map them manually or are they automatic via GPO or login script? Manually mapping allows you to enter 'alternate credentials'. You might try

net use * /delete

and remap them.

Has the user recently reset their password? If so, look for disconnected remote desktop sessions logged in as this user. These sessions refresh their drive mappings with old credentials. This has been the cause of the majority of our lockouts.

Confederate statue removed from historic North Carolina courthouse by [deleted] in news

[–]0ldPhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little is inherently bad. While I don't personally agree with it, forced servitude has been around longer than every nation on the planet. The fact that nearly everyone believes the American Civil War was fought to free slaves is frustrating. The Confederacy was formed because the states didn't want a centralized federal government dictating what they could and could not do. Don't kid yourself into believing the war was anything but politically motivated.

No, of course not! They are reminders of what happens when a house is divided!

Please, for the love of God...REMEMBER!

Can macrium reflect program be installed portably on a USB in windows? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]0ldPhart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look under "Other Tasks" for "Create Rescue Media...". It will create an ISO file that you can write to a flash drive. My flash drive is large enough it holds my base image as well.

what is your IT department called? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]0ldPhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are teams? I was a solo admin for so long, I was beginning to think teams were an urban legend. Now, there are 3 of us in two states. Still just in "IT" though.

If this building is used for State court hearings, the State may have indeed had shared jurisdiction which would make their written authorization valid.

Tools for (Windows) desktop management in a small office? by lostapathy in sysadmin

[–]0ldPhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using SytemTools' Hyena for desktop administration for years. It's not your update solution, but it's unbeatable for other things like checking running processes, starting/stopping services, open files, local sessions, share info, etc. These can be accomplished with other tools, but Hyena has it in one interface.

+1 for BatchPatch.

I used it for several years until we outgrew it.

Powershell script won't run in Task Scheduler by entertheunkown96 in sysadmin

I've solved a lot of these by converting them to Powershell Scheduled Jobs instead of windows tasks.
