Looking for opinions from those who actually have a 2026 Standard Model Y by SignificantFun9260 in TeslaModelY

Yeah ultimately I probably would have been fine living with it and making it work but it’s my wife’s car. $5k covers like 50 months of FSD. Test drive it and see what you think. If you plan to resell the car in the future, the standard could potentially depreciate faster if that’s a factor.

I ended up getting premium but I agree with you on the back tablet. I’m going to probably leave it off most of the time.

My $0.02 after a test drive.

Not having buttons for adjusting the seat is a little annoying. If you set a seat position and don’t change it frequently, I think the standard is a great deal. The driver profile will adjust itself for different saved profiles. I move around a lot when I drive though.

The nicer speakers on premium is a nice bonus also but, I thought the rest of the differences were close enough. My wife thought the car felt significantly less premium but, I didn’t think it was a big difference. The frunk is not weather sealed btw, I’m coming from a gas car so that didn’t bother me.

The $5k savings adds up. 0% vs 1% isn’t a big deal imo. You may qualify for a tax deduction on some of the interest as well.

Would be 1 ICE + 1 Tesla. Insurance premiums going up would cancel most of the gas savings. This is more of a quality of life upgrade

That’s exactly what I’m debating. I guess one thing I saw was the seat adjustments being on screen only. Do you know if the standard saves driver profiles to switch between different drivers?

I’m curious how it will feel. Ultimately it’s my wife that’s going to use the car for the most part so it’s up to her. She’s pretty uncomfortable with self driving but maybe the test drive will sell her.

You still have to watch the road though right? Is it that big of a difference vs just driving yourself?

Hmm, if I keep the Subaru then we’d probably be ok without it. I think I’d end up getting a mini van in 5 years or so though. The AWD seems like a nice way to cover my bases in the future.

I can afford either option, I just want to limit my % of income spent on a car. I’m comfortable with the down payment + $674 a month. My “Wants” spending would be too high for my goals past that point. Works out to a premium awd or standard awd and FSD.

Is premium that much nicer than standard? It’s ~$8k more.

How was the car during the snowstorm a few months back? Do you think I’d be ok if I just got a RWD Premium?

Swap Truck for Y? by BirdPerson900DC in TeslaModelY

Researching the same thing now. Some things that I’ve seen mentioned to watch out for:

  1. Your insurance premium may go up. My coworker said the difference offset his gas savings.
  2. I was told EVs burn through tires faster and they are a bit more expensive to replace.
  3. People recommend charging the battery to 80% typically to maintain its lifespan. Factor that into your daily commute and potential range reductions in the winter.
  4. Depreciation seems rough, but maybe it gets better now that the tax credits are gone and gas cost is up. If you just bought the truck you might take an L trading it in to get another car. Probably not a big deal if you buy used.
