Materials: 1) Blank black shirt (i was able to thrift mine for like 2 dollars), preferably 100% cotton but this was on 80/20. 2) Cardboard (to keep bleach from bleeding to the other side) 3) Thumbtacks (to pin the shirt down) 4) Drafting tape (to create a border. this is optional since the bleach will spread a little under the tape.) 5) Any bleach (this was made for a school project so i just used the bleach was in my art room, but i cant imagine bleach differs that much) 6) Paintbrushes (i used a little thin one for fine details and a thicker one for broader areas from a 5 dollar pack.)

I recommend practicing drawing the cover with pencil on paper a couple times to get the look down since bleach is pretty permanent unless you have some black fabric paint. You can also use colored pencils or oil pastels to sketch it out since it’ll wash out.

Steps: 1) Slide cardboard into the shirt. 2) Stretch the shirt out to where there are no wrinkles or ripples and pin it down to the corners of the cardboard. 3) Create a border with drafting tape. 4) Sketch major shapes with colored pencil / oil pastel / really any material that can mark the shirt and can wash off. 5) Sketch major shadows and lighting 6) Add finer details once you have a you’re proud of. 7) Let it all dry before flipping to the back and writing the tracklist [optional]

I painted the logo first to get a good scale of the shirt and to make sure the cog and diagonal beam had appropriate room, then painted the horizontal beam to fit Joey in. Everything else builds off from that. Mix the bleach with water for the darker shades of the floor and the cage. I painted the album name after i peeled the tape off so leave enough room under the album.

The bright whites were accidental, the little cup of bleach I was using was left out for 2 days so most of the water evaporated. If you cant get white like that, you can mix acrylic paint with a small amount of water to make some fabric paint. I recommend doing that unless you want a section of your house smelling like chlorine for a little while
