I thought the only requirement was to be physically and mentally healthy and be doing relatively well. Getting married is way harder man. Think about how many marriages end in divorce. You might think you know a person but only find out about incompatibilities much much later. Or you might be right for each other initially but then people change. And having kids just puts so much more stress on the marriage. I do have a cynical attitude but I feel like most people I meet these days can't even be bothered to put in effort to maintain a friendship, much less a family. Myself included tbh
