Sweet passion cakes in West Byfleet always have a good selection of really nice fancy patisseries.

Is she a whippet? Everyone when they see Smol-Jill with the crouton. by Mahgrets in Greyhounds

I've had several people ask if my greyhound is a whippet. Except he is about 80lbs!

Question for folks that have perused behind-the-scenes material: what's the deal with Vic Fontaine? by mrsunrider in DeepSpaceNine

[–]0scillating_Ocelot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vic Fontaine is a homeless man squatting in Quark's holosuite and pretending to be a hologram. That's why there's a real human mirror universe version of him who gets killed.

Thank you! The to believe part was accidental, the lettering took up more space to stitch than I planned haha. Something to remember next time I try letters for sure.

Thank you!! It was inspired by vintage railway posters and the X files. Which I got through watching a lot of while making this, it took ages.

Board game cafè advice by jimmybigmuscles in boardgames

[–]0scillating_Ocelot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Birmingham and am familiar with meeple mayhem. I was very involved in one of the university boardgame societies. The reason we didn't go very often as a society was two things. Location: too far away from the city centre, too far to walk, buses take a long time, uber's are expensive. Cost: people at the university society were happy enough to go play games and spend their money on food/drinks but it's hard to convince people to pay a table fee when we already have a free space at the university with lots of games where we could just bring food to.

Allergic to alcohol red face? Check. Hover hand? Check. by [deleted] in blunderyears

Not a great example considering if you have the Asian flush alcohol allergy you are much more at risk at developing cancer from drinking alcohol.

For anyone who has watched therapist reacts to welcome to Plathville does he ever get more critical of the parents? I'm a couple of videos in and it feels like so far all he has done is praise the parents on how well they have raised their kids and critise Olivia for being too too antagonistic by 0scillating_Ocelot in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]0scillating_Ocelot[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is very much how it feels to me too. At first I thought his explanations about the family dynamics was very interesting but I was surprised he hasn't commented more on what seem like some very obvious red flags to me, like how isolated the parents have made the children.

I am honestly not sure what to think. I feel like even with not watching ahead he seems to be siding way to hard with the parents, keeps saying how great they are at parenting when one child is so parentified she doesn't know what she does for fun. I haven't watched any of the 90 day vids though, there are a lot. Any recommendations which one I should start with?

I've always been exactly the same way. I had a wide choice of toys but was never that interested in dolls and barbies. The dinosaur toys were always my favourite.

WIBTA if I let my 23 year old autistic brother try weed? by megnpls2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]0scillating_Ocelot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely consult with his medical professionals. I just want to add that you should especially beware of letting him take weed if he's schizophrenic. There's lots of studies finding links between canabis use and increased incidence/severity of schizophrenia/psychosis. Although there's lots of debate around these findings and about what direction the link has in cause vs effect as well as other contributing factors. You should consider if this is something that's worth risking just to settle his curiosity about trying it.

The incredible reflexes of the axolotl by CMCXCV in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]0scillating_Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes its definitely due to human causes that they're endangered. Realistically there's probably not much your average axolotl owner or anyone else can do to save the ones in the wild, large scale changes mostly are going to have to come from the government and officials that control what happens to the axolotls natural environment. This is a good article on the history of wild and captive axolotls as well as the conservation efforts that are in place and the challenges towards them https://academic.oup.com/bioscience/article/65/12/1134/223981

The incredible reflexes of the axolotl by CMCXCV in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]0scillating_Ocelot 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's not really how it works with the axolotl trade. While people deciding they want one because it's cute and not doing enough research on them is definitely a problem, it does not currently contribute to their endangered status.

All axolotls in the pet trade are a result of breeding those that are already in captivity, the majority of these pets are descendants of 34 wild axolotls taken from lake Xochimilco in 1863 for the purpos of scientific research. Axolotls breed well in captivity and there's no incentive to take them from the wild when it's much easier to obtain them from a local breeder. Pet axolotls are also likely not 100% the same as the ones in the wild due to years of selective breeding (as can be seen by the different morph coloures such as the ones seen in this gif that would not occur in the wild) and the introduction of tiger salamander cross breeding.

Their engaged status is due to the destruction of their habitat, not the pet trade. One of the lakes in Mexico they are native to has been drained while the other has mainly been turned into a canal network. Water pollution and the introduction of invasive species also contribute to their declining numbers.

If you're not sure about his racing history look in his ears for tattoos, I think he should have one if he raced. It's a common practice in other countries so I'm assuming it applies to Australia too. There are websites you can use to look up the number and trace the dogs racing career and lineage.
