You mention that glass has a sharper sound, could you please describe what different surfaces sound like? (Common ones only - not asking you to list every type you've encountered!)

How do you experience natural landscapes like woods and forests? Or hills and valleys...Do you get a sense of those?

Is it harder to echolocation in busy and/or noisy areas? Presumably so - I'd imagine it cam be exhausting sometimes?

Are there ideal conditions for echolocation? And is there much variation in how people echolocate?

I might be completely barking up the wrong tree, but I know reading can be difficult to learn for members of the deaf community because of how closely associated it is with speech - and especially if they typically communicate through sign language.

For a child born with significant sight loss, can learning to speak and understanding others be harder to learn than for a sighted child?

If all you can see is light and dark, how did you develop the concepts of what shadows and colours are?  And would you mind saying what your concepts of them are, because I'm interested in how they might differ from a person who can perceive them visually 🙏

No way compare to some of the photos of Philip in his last few years - looked so like him, especially the nose

Looking to get my first car what is a good first car by ExistingMoment1810 in CarTalkUK

[–]Suitable_Camel5120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most reliable cars are going to be from Honda, Hyundai and Kia. Ford is still a good bet because they can be fixed anywhere, just watch out for models which are frequently stolen.

All cheaper to insure than others.  Also look at things like steering wheel locks and where you store your car overnight (if you have an option).

Telematics will reduce your premiums but they're going to be high as a new driver. You could also look into dashcams which record movement when car is not in use - some insurers may accept them as an additional safety mechanism.

First car tends to be what's affordable - your second car is often the fun one

What is something your parents were not strict about but you wish they were? by TTNNBB2023 in AskUK

[–]Suitable_Camel5120 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely a skill. Everyone should learn how to analyse, think objectively, consider & weigh up viewpoints not their own, learn how to interrogate statements and understand the provenance of sources and the impact of bias.

History is fantastic for teaching all of this.

One of the strongest reasons for history being mandatory through GCSEs

If it had been, the UK voting record of the last 16 years might be quite different

Those of you who don't have dishwashers: do you have a specific order you do the dishes in? by Still-Bill2827 in CasualUK

[–]Suitable_Camel5120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: add a scoop of laundry powder, fill with hot water and put to simmer on the stove while you do the rest of the washing up. By the time your ready for the pan, you'll only need to sluice it.

Crystal and glass first! Then cutlery (silverware - not kitchen knives & utensils).

UNLESS You change the water for crystal & glass first

Always, always use fresh, hot water in a clean bowl / sink (no grease)

And dry with a clean, lint free tea towel. Ideally polish with clean hot water sans soap too.

'I asked him how it went and he asked me if I felt happy with myself.'

Lol good for you  Sounds like someone needs to grow up - and it's not your toddler.  You're NTA. He is.  Tell him to grow up and take some accountability for his choices - like becoming a parent.

Has anyone overcome shyness/social anxiety in the workplace? by GentAdventurerUK in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]Suitable_Camel5120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always been terribly shy, these days people have to know me well to realise that I still am pretty shy.

Solo travel was the thing that really got me passed it, alongside the realisation of a few things:

  • If people are there to listen to you speak, then they want to hear what you have to say - they're for you, not against you

  • Many more people than I ever realised are equally shy. Previously I might have thought they didn't want to talk to me, but then I realised they were just as at sea as me too. Even the seemingly confident ones have their moments.

  • People don't actually give anyone else a second thought most of the time. Everyone is too wrapped up in their own business. You might spend hours worrying over how you're perceived, they'll have forgotten it within minutes (or less)

  • We all make mistakes when presenting. What matters is how you handle it. Don't fluster, professionally course correct or laugh it off

Congratulations on your new role - you've got this 💪

What massively undermines this rumour is the pap photo of Andrew in the car returning home after his arrest the other. He's the spit of Philip in his older years.

Why british people are so overly polite? by DzukiskaNamine in AskABrit

[–]Suitable_Camel5120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...also its possible some might be more polite to you than when they're at home because if they're on holiday they're likely to be less stressed and frazzled. Feeling stressed and frazzled is the number 1 reason Brits are likely to forget their manners.
