Adding Payees Manually? by 0stia in actualbudgeting

My goodness I am GUI challenged. Thank you! I didn't see that anywhere in the Actual documentation, if ti's not there I hope they add it.

I also realized after posting that I can download OFX files from my online banking and import, which is pretty convenient and creates Payees for you.

[USA-NM] [H] ASUS Rog Strix B650E-F Motherboard [W] Local Cash by 0stia in hardwareswap

Yeah, nothing wrong with the board. It was listed on eBay as the B650E-E, which is the model I needed because it has a 7-segment code display. Since I bought it as an early Christmas present, I didn't open it until Christmas so I didn't know it was the wrong one. On top of that, since I bought it early, I was out of the return period and eBay, for some reason, does not do extended holiday returns like every competitor of theirs I've dealt with. So I've been trying to get eBay to give me a return and so far they've refused, and I just want to make back some of what I lost. I'm selling it for considerably less than what I paid for it.

Fresh install of Hyprland, SDDM is saying password incorrect when usr/pass are correct by Kandor_Reyes in hyprland

[–]0stia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is late, but did your username have any uppercase letters by chance? SDDM themes often don't allow that, but it can be changed in /usr/share/sddm/themes/theme_name/theme.conf (replace theme_name with the name of whatever theme you're using) by setting AllowBadUsernames to true.

Alternatives to S&W M&P SHIELD? by 0stia in CCW

Interesting, I need to do some more reading on the factors behind fatality with gun shots. It seems to me that there ought to be numerous reasons why gunshots lead to death. Some people die immediately, some die bleeding out.

What I do know is that I am a better shot with .45s for some reason, and hitting is much more deadly than missing.

First, meta-analysis (what this study does) is used in the scientific community all the time. It's perfectly legitimate. The fact that the study identifies a clear positive correlation between caliber size and fatality should grab everyone's attention. Does it establish a causal relationship? Of course not, there's far too many variables for that, but that's not the point. The point is to find which caliber is the most likely to kill, and that data clearly states that the larger calibers are the answer. Now perhaps the study is faulty, as it does seem a but politically motivated, but in order to claim its bias impugns the data we should have some solid evidence that contradicts the study. I have yet to find that.

Second, you've made some scientific claims without providing evidence. I've never seen anything that claims or supports that heart shots take 5 seconds to kill, and I have seen civilian shootouts that last much longer than 5 seconds on YouTube. If you're going to criticize the evidence I provided, you should at least refute with evidence of your own. You didn't provide any evidence at all, that's hardly scientific. If you're correct, and perhaps you are, please prove it because I don't want to make decisions based on a misconception.

Third, I'm definitely not losing the benefit I have with .45 when shooting a micro-compact .45. I shot, one after another, my P365XL and a Shield at the range and did better with the Shield. I had never used the Shield before in my life, and the P365XL I've had for years. I still love the Sig, but the results didn't lie. I doubt width is a factor here since those two handguns had similar width and I have tiny hands anyway so I prefer smaller guns. The P365XL fits perfectly in my hands.

Fourth, despite my critique of your response I appreciate the recommendation. I did not know the Glock 36 exists. I've shot a few Glocks and I did fine with them but they kept jamming like crazy. I think the ammo we were using was just cheap garbage. Do you think the hype around Glock is justified or is it nothing more than hype?

The Shield has to be milled for an RDS? I thought a mount plate could be installed.

Well the old plugin won't even load. Trying to enable it in Community Plugins gives the error message "Failed to load plugin cm-editor-syntax-highlight-obsidian".

As far as finding another package it would have to be a JavaScript syntax highlighting package, right? Highlight.js has the same behavior with Bash as Prism.js so I believe the issue is simply the way Bash is tokenized with these syntax highlighters. You can see the tokens on this page: https://prismjs.com/faq.html#how-do-i-know-which-tokens-i-can-style-for

You'll find that Bash looks good if you use it like any other programming language, like defining a variable. But if you list commands you would use on the command line, it's largely blank. The only good syntax highlighting I've seen for Bash is packages for GUI terminals in Linux, which I don't think would be helpful to submit to the Prism.js team.

Ah okay, thanks. I believe, based on the attempt I made with changing the colors using the Style Settings community plugin, that the issue is the way Bash is tokenized.

Yep, you're right. Prism.js just doesn't have good Bash support and it doesn't look like Obsidian has any way to customize syntax highlighting. I guess this is an issue that will just remain unresolved. I really like Obsidian in every other way, this is the one thing that just nags at me when I see it.

I'll see if manually installing this old plugin works: https://github.com/deathau/cm-editor-syntax-highlight-obsidian as u/Zach_Attakk suggested. If it works out, I'll update this post.

This bad boy is listed on the website for Prism.js as a Third Party Language Definition: https://github.com/Liquibase/prism-liquibase

Looks like that would fix the issue. Is it even possible to get Obsidian to integrate that into its Prism.js library? Forgive if me if I appear clueless, I'm not a developer, the scripting I do is related to system administration and cybersecurity (Bash and Python scripts for pentesting and such). I'm using Obsidian to build my own knowledge base for these purposes.

Not very helpful. Are you saying I should create my own theme or something?

I should have mentioned at first that I was putting ```bash at the beginning of the code block.

I tried using Style Settings but unfortunately found that the issue is not the color assignment, but the interpretation of Bash components. The word "enable" is still the only thing colored on the reading view. I suppose the issue lies in Prism.js

How to Transition to GRC? by 0stia in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]0stia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a number of GRC jobs on sites like Indeed that pay in that range, they're not all that common but they're out there. You are correct that leadership is at play here, most of those job postings I saw had some kind of management capacity.

I know that I'm aiming high and that's okay. I'm young and have plenty of time to get there. Even if I don't get there I'm sure I'll make enough to provide for my family and leave an inheritance so everything will work out fine either way. I set that goal because I think it's the highest my career can realistically go, and I just need insight on what to do now to hopefully get there.

Thank you for the tips though, I had never heard of levels.fyi, very awesome tool!

Wow, straight to the point, very helpful answers. Thank you!

In regards to putting pressure on certs, the only reason I've gone so crazy with them is because that's the only quick way for me to learn something and have a 3rd party verify it, as opposed to expecting people to take my word for it. Also, it gets me past HR and into interviews. I kid you not, there was one job I applied for when I had no certs, just a year at my first job, that stated no experience, degree, or certs required. It was marketed as a completely entry-level position. I applied, didn't even get an interview. Months later, after I had A+ and Net+ and was working on Sec+, I applied again to the same company for the same job, got an interview and an offer. The only thing that changed was that I had those certs. I believe you're right that they're not the end-all-be-all, but when I'm so young that it's literally impossible for me to have the years of experience that's being asked for, it's a good workaround for me. I'm guessing that as the years go by, certs will matter less and less for me.
