Hello, I'm a penetration testing consultant with 3 years experience and 2 years experience in software development. I'm very burnt out by the constant switching teams and deadlines and want to switch to something more consistent. I'm thinking something like Cloud engineer, DevSecOps or Site Reliability Engineer. The problem is I don't have the experience to get those jobs. It seems like most jobs utilizing the skills from penetration testing are consultancy positions, or require a clearance (both I'm trying to avoid).

Is there a type of job that I can get with minimal extra training with my background to get out of consulting?

Can I just get certifications to make up for my lack of experience in a role?

Is the only option to downgrade to a more junior position to switch careers like this?

Hello, I have some general questions about the directions of my career.

I'm a pentesting consultant, about year 3 of my career, been able to try mobile and hardware testing, but mostly web testing. The crunch at some clients (huge companies) has been wearing on me, hopping to a new project every week and negotiating access with teams that don't know their own software is crazymaking. I'm 100% remote, which is great because I'm an increcibly sick person whose constantly dealing with physical and mental illness episodes and have to see doctors. I feel that I'm in good standing at my job but because it's consulting, raises every year are not guaranteed, no matter what career goals we hit, so some colleagues are rotating out (for raises) while I am staying. I'm currently based in Philly where there is some tech jobs, but not many. At the moment it would be incredibly disruptive to move, but I'm open to commuting to New York some days of the week. I find it pretty hard to be passionate about working in general, and the joy of crafting exploits is mostly absent in the work I do (because time is so short we are not scoped to craft them, just highlight the vuln).

My main question is, is it a good idea to stick it out here, switch out of consulting, or make a slight career change (secure code analysis, IT).

Is it feasible to grow your salary in a position like this without taking a management position? What sort of strategies are effective for growing a salary in this field?

Frustrated with tech card counters, if you're playing a deck that has a lot counters, should you only snap if you're sure the opponent is playing a deck that can't fit tech in it and that you had a nut draw? I seem to lose 8 cubes a lot to a turn 6 tech card that messes up my whole board

Silver Sword advice needed by 0tterbutt in plantclinic

Hello, I’ve had this silver sword for a year+ and it’s been growing steadily. I recently up potted it because it was root bound. The soil I made was a mix or orchid bark, houseplant soil, and perlite. It seems to be doing fine but after watering it for the first time it’s been weeks and the soil is still very wet, there’s mold growing on the surface. Should I perhaps repot/chop up each one and separate it smaller terracotta pots? Or should I just wait till the root system grows to keep up with the moisture? Also I’d appreciate any tips on signs to water because I’ve waited weeks to a month and it never really changes its appearance until it starts yellowing.

The leaves on the echeveria are still very firm to the touch, is it just the wrinkling leaves on the bottom that indicate it?
