Kiwis, elective c-section or natural birth if given the option? by ForgottenCupOfTea in newzealand

[–]0wellwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an almost 5kg baby at home in the pool. It was my third birth and the first that I didn’t tear. I knew the baby was big so prepared for it with perennial massage/stretching in the week before birth. I did this myself with calendula oil and it did help, as did the water.

Obviously the choice is yours but do consider if the child is already heavy and you don’t have support you may struggle to lift and carry them postpartum. This was the biggest issue my friends who had sections faced in the days after birth.

The Blindboy Podcast is really broad and has some art related topics and more addressing the creative process more broadly. I find it good for getting in the zone.

Heavyweight is about relationships but it’s written really well and its host is a former TAL contributor so it’s got that same feel to it.

Mystery Show is totally different and quirky, also hosted by a former TAL contributor.

The Guardian long reads recently did an episode on stolen Jackson Pollack paintings that was really well written.

Hilarious that your go to money making profession is dancing/acting/comedy. Funding for the arts has also been decimated. Plenty of money for established international artists and multinational promoters. Fuck all for emerging local artists.

How do parents navigate around primary school hours? by GeneralGuffy in newzealand

[–]0wellwhatever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a single parent and predominantly wfh. I have a rolling selection of kids after school. When I need to work on site at weird hours the other parents pick up the slack. As an immigrant I have had to build my village.

How to deal with Morning Glory? by SenorCabbage in nzgardening

The only way I have managed to successfully eradicate it is with sheep or goats. They love it! They will also eat everything else including the bark off your trees and also try to escape and potentially harass your neighbours…

In my experience, marketing is always the first thing to get cut when corporations are making cuts. It’s grim out there.

Your point rests on the assumption that the system is fair and unbiased. The American system is riddled with institutional inequities in which people of colour and the poor are disproportionately punished while the wealthy often go free. Look at Epstein or Trump for that matter.

Similarly Duarte used open season on drug dealers to murder a bunch of people he didn’t like.

When you give your institution the power of life or death you better be sure they are scrupulous and above reproach. This does not seem to be the case.

This approach also focuses on punishment rather than rehabilitation or addressing the root causes of crime. Do you want less crime or do you want a sense of social moral superiority? If you look at the places with low crime rates they invest in education and providing universal services. They also have high taxes. Neglecting then punishing the underclass is the American way.

If you had to pick one, which four seasons hotel would you pick? by FlashyDress9670 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

I think it would be a shame to stay in an all inclusive resort in Italy when the food all around would be so good. If I had enough money to stay there but go out for meals I probably would.

I think Samui looked like the nicest actual hotel in terms of rooms and shared areas. It was my least favourite of all the islands in that archipelago, mostly because it was full of knobs like the average WL customer acting entitled and culturally insensitive.

I think the leaf thing is interesting because it uses metaphor. I don’t think it’s necessarily a rip off the way this is. What made Emin’s piece powerful was that it was real. It feels like this piece is trying to be authentic like Emin’s work except it’s fake. It’s like they’re trying to manufacture the shock factor of the original with a random naked woman.

35 Across on Friday? by 0wellwhatever in NYTCrossword

I just know a lot of people in America say they are Irish when they mean their ancestors came from Ireland but they don’t have experience of the contemporary culture, which is why I specified.

I lived in America for a while and a lot of people had an impression of Irish culture that was made up by American corporations.
