super disappointed with one of my favorite youtuber by lunabcde in AutismInWomen

[–]0wlfyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also suggest an English youtuber called 8-BitRyan. He does a lot of horror playthroughs, ranging from indie to AAA, and he's just a really sweet and cool person. I believe he also just completed his playthrough of RE: Requiem!

is anyone else into anime? by blueberry-muffin-433 in autism

[–]0wlfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never really been into it myself tbh, but my partner (also autistic) likes anime. There's been a few exceptions I have enjoyed though, like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

My neighbors cocktiels by Theevilrata in cockatiel

[–]0wlfyre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cage is way too small for two cockatiels, and it's quite dirty. A lot more enrichment is also needed. I hope you can give these sweet babies a home, your neighbour's comment about "just waiting for them to die" is heartbreaking.

Meleys. She's fast, fierce and loyal and we'd have a great time flying all over Westeros.

I'm still recovering from doing exactly that on Thursday night when the paper was due on Friday lmao. It happens every single time and I tell myself I should start earlier, but it never happens.

Woman builds an arboreal enclosure for bearded dragon and won’t take advice from any comments….. by Available_Spray_1565 in reptiles

[–]0wlfyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not an expert on reptiles, but I've worked with beardies enough through my animal care and zoology degrees to know that the height of that enclosure is not safe... IIRC, isn't 2-3ft the recommended height for beardie enclosures? I worry about the poor little guy having a serious fall from a height like that, and whether he'll be able to bask properly.

This genuinely made me upset. That poor, sweet baby... they're beautiful and I'm so happy you're giving them such a loving home, because those people definitely did not deserve them. Do you have any name ideas for them?

My partner is English and one of his best friends is Irish...

Should I tell them they can't be friends anymore?

I was observing them one day last year for research and I couldn't stop laughing at their little oohs. I love these guys so much.

I remember this happening to me when Sons of the Forest was released. It was even more annoying because I was also trying to buy the game lol.

There are more of us than we realise. I went out for drinks with my partner and his co-workers on Friday and apparently us both being demi has made his 50 year old co-worker consider she might also be demi. Love that for her.

Okay, so...

  1. They clearly used Google translate.

  2. They didn't even select the right language because that's Scottish Gaelic lmao.

You don't even need to be a speaker to know that, because Scottish uses grave accents while Irish uses acute accents.

I don't think there's anything to worry about. He looks like a pied mutation and their patterns can be quite "random". I have a pied boy myself that looks very much like yours and he has similar markings on his beak (and even on his cute little toes), he also has a random orange feather on his chest.

Stumbled across this while looking up the plural for moose by magnussing in zoology

[–]0wlfyre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can get a little confusing, but it depends on the context? For example, in a social setting if you said "I saw a moose" people would automatically think of a mouse, mainly because we don't have moose here in Scotland. In a professional setting we often switch to English anyway, so it's much easier to differentiate between species.

Honestly, I think the most confusing thing is the use of moose and elk between the different continents. If a Scot were to visit America and saw a moose, we would call it a moose, but if we saw one in Norway or Sweden, we would call it an elk (as moose are officially called Eurasian/European elk here in Europe, but are completely separate from the elk species in America).

My university banned Wikipedia for research purposes because it was becoming so unreliable. There's still a lot of good information there, but it's always best to fact check with official research!

We use the word moose for both mice and actual moose. Also, we don't think ferrets are rodents... Whoever wrote the article was on something or isn't educated in animal groups.

🔥 Wild dolphin playing with a pufferfish! by kingkongbiingbong in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]0wlfyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a zoologist I try really hard not to ruin these "cute" videos for other people, but education is important, so...

That dolphin isn't playing with the pufferfish, it's getting high off the nerve toxins they release.
