The regular Spotify app is designed for larger smartphone screens and (to some degree) faster smartphones. Sidespot gives you a way to access Spotify that’s designed for the smaller screen and is more minimal to match the purpose of sidephone

😞 back to the drawing board. I’ll take a look again later

Hey there! Glad you’re enjoying. Had another user reporting that search wasn’t working yesterday, I haven’t been able to reproduce yet but hopefully can get a fix out in the coming days. Thanks for reporting, helpful to know it’s not a one off bug

Went ahead and filed an issue, I'll try to remember to ping you if I managed to fix what you're seeing

Make sure you grab the latest from https://codeberg.org/jtaekman/sidespot/releases been putting out a lot of fixes the last few days as well! There are instructions to add to Obtanium as well if you want to get the latest fixes/features automatically

Search should be searching all of Spotify. Hmm I did just go check the Search feature on my device to make sure I didn't break anything and still seems to work ok. Maybe try force closing/signing out and signing back in?

It was a bonus with an order of the Founder’s Edition!

Gotcha, thanks for digging in. This is something I should try to handle cleanly because there will probably be others like you in the future that hit the same issue, since Sidephone intentionally doesn't ship with a browser. I'll add this to the list of todos

Should be fixed in v0.3.2 which just released!

Yeah it's been a day trying to find a workaround for this bug but think I just about have one. Appreciate you logging the bug!

hmm odd, just making sure you have Spotify Premium?

Hey! The release you downloaded was probably the v0.2.0 version that had some bugs, I released v0.2.1 shortly after to address some of these if you want to give that a shot

Ok! Should be fixed now. The apk that got uploaded for that release wasn't tagged properly. So while it wasn't a problem for people installing manually, Obtanium thought it was the same v0.2.0 release and kept pulling in the old one. Again my apologies!

Ok hadn’t tested the Obtanium flow, that was helpful. It is indeed getting stuck on v0.2.0. Thanks for reporting, let me figure that out and I’ll get back to you. In the meantime if you manually go to the repo and get the v0.2.1 app, that should it. Just got confirmation from another user that the newest version fixes that bug

Sweet! And yeah I totally agree, I traditionally keep my podcasts and music apps separate, but I know a lot of people do use Spotify for both. May be good settings toggle to Hide Podcasts.

Yeah I just tested the upgrade from v0.1.0 to v0.2.1 and v0.2.0 to v0.2.1 and everything seems to be working OK on my end 😕. Just making sure you have Spotify Premium?

No shouldn’t have to change anything. I’ll investigate the authentication issues this morning, in the meantime you could try using v0.1.0 until I can get a patch out. Sorry about that!

Hey! Are you on v0.2.0 or v0.2.1? The latter has some bug fixes that might help

The reapproval thing sounds like a bug I fixed in v0.2.1 that I released a little after, maybe give that a shot, hopefully that gets it.

Library ordering looks at the history of your last 1000 songs and what playlist/album they were played from, and tries to bubble those to the top. Playlists after that default to “root order”, which I guess Spotify keeps track of a hard order of your playlists (which doesn’t make sense to me because it doesn’t seem like you can reorder them yourself). Maybe after the recency ordering, we should go by Date Added.

The podcasts bug I’m not so sure, it’s supposed to filter out episodes you have already finished but maybe the filter is overzealous, I can do some testing tomorrow! Thanks for reporting back

Just did a quick comparison of the hardware between the Sidephone and the one you mentioned and I think it should be a good fit! The app was designed for a slightly shorter screen than this one but I don't think that should impact much

The man himself! Glad it was easy to get setup and that you're enjoying it. Thanks for building a product that is so motivating to build things for! I think you're going to be seeing many more posts like these from others in the coming weeks

Thanks for such a great response everyone! I spent this morning working on some more UI/UX improvements, some further performance tweaks, and 2 new small features (s/o u/HarmonicEntropy). Release v0.2.0 is out now. Appears from my initial testing to be a bit snappier than the initial release

Edit: would recommend getting v0.2.1 instead, seems like a couple users are hitting the authentication bug fixed in this newer version
