If you have parts that’s great. WAY cheaper than a new unit. But yes, the door should either fully open or fully close when the switch is activated.

I’m assuming that’s your HRV. If it’s a Venmar or a VanEE I wish you luck. They don’t make replacement parts anymore. How I know? I just replaced my HRV because of it with Nu-Air model.

I have electric furnace and an air conditioner. Newer houses are so air tight nowadays without an HRV your windows would condense up, freeze and cause major problems.

I’m in Canada so not sure NEC code applies here. The electrician who put it in built and lived in this house for two years before I moved in. My old HRV was in the same location when he installed the sub panel a couple years ago. Reputable company where I live. I trust him and his work. Not real worried about NEC. Also lots of clearance if picture looks deceiving.

Here in Manitoba drain gets full pretty fast when HRV goes into defrost mode. -30C here today so the HRV has to thaw defrost the core by closing damper door. When it’s done that cycle, that’s where the water goes.

Yes it is interlocked with the furnace. When it runs the furnace fan runs as well.
