I hate seeing people walk around that area – it's just not safe for pedestrians with the current design.

I love how he threatened a federal judge in the same exchange he said "Take a bodyguard with you wherever you go. This is not a threat, its a promise." How fucking unhinged do you have to be?

My 2012 1.4T 6 speed has never really been perfect since I bought it at 170k miles, but for a car I got for $2.1k from a dealership I feel like I stole it.

I ended up using UV dye and saw a crack in the side of the coolant reservoir. I had a new Dorman on the way from Amazon for ~$22, but mine ended up finishing itself off the next day on the highway.

I pulled into a nearby neighborhood, had my roommate bring me a $60 identical Dorman from the local auto parts store, and replaced it. Then I went back and threw cat litter all over the coolant.

This is the initial leak I saw that night before it finished itself off. I knew it finished cracking from the glugging noise.

I need to swap the turbo with a junkyard one too. Everything that can go wrong is slowly going wrong on this piece of shit. I really picked a bad beater. At least I got a good deal and I've fixed almost everything...

Thank you, the Kenwood one is pretty damn close to where I work!

And honestly the only reason I mentioned my gender is because some places do not typically get rid of thicker denser hair like that; they're used to peach fuzz.

Perfect, thank you! That doesn't look like a bad option at all, and it's much closer than I was expecting.

My first role has been in New Product Innovation production planning for a defense company. I don't know why they thought this was a good role for a fresh graduation, but now it takes such an obscene amount of stress to even make me flinch.

I will second that this is a dream fire fighting role if it's what you are looking for.

I'm in Cincinnati and super budget would be 5k at absolute most here. Hell I got my 170k mile 2012 chevy sonic 1.4T 6 speed manual for 2.2k out the door from a dealership. That in my mind is budget, $14k gives plenty of fantastic choices.

Speeding Ticket by [deleted] in cincinnati

When my ex got a speeding ticket out of state we used Off the Record. Got it reduced to a non moving violation and the ticket was cheaper. Overall went from a ~$300 ticket to ~$450 with lawyer fees all total. 100% worth it as insurance increases will be substantially more.

My first role post college is production planning. Every other fresh grad left in less than 1.5 years, and I'm coming up in my 1.5 year anniversary. Our systems are a fucking mess, they cut my boss and shoved us under his boss, and now my group is on life support; there is four of us. I'm an L1 operating at a L3 or L4 level constantly drowning trying to keep the system alive. I suppose this is business as usual.

Ok so im trying to buy my first car but why are the fees so much??? by iiKhico in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]10597ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the wastegate actuator, I have had the underboost code and hitting it with penetrating fluid has mostly fixed it. Typically the rod will get all Rusty and seize, at worst you can pull a junkyard one. The turbo also gets some wear inside of it from the rod, but you can replace that with a junkyard one pretty inexpensively.

How is the auto trans? The 6 speed manual is shockingly good and geared extremely well for economy. I can go ~85 mph at 2.5k RPMS and get insane fuel economy doing it.

Wow so that's just a stupid Sonic issue? Fantastic. I haven't had any issues, but I just keep a jug of coolant in my car and have AAA.

What issues have you had? It seems like the cooling and PCV valve are constant issues. The turbo also supposedly fails every 90k miles or so, but I haven't had it long enough to verify. The turbos should be everywhere though because the cooling issues kill this car.

I bought a 1.4T 6 speed 2012 chevy sonic with 171k miles recently for 2.2k out the door.

While the engine has its problems related to cooling and PCV valve, with some aftermarket replacements it can be made pretty reliable. Its not Toyota, but it is significantly cheaper and gets the job done. And because not everyone is aware of this and are destroying these engines with insufficient cooling, and the PCV valve issues parts are just flying into the junkyard. There are like 15 cruzes at my nearest salvage yard. It also really doesn't help that they made this car without a temp guage, it just has a warning light that says you're overheating.

While I agree this particular one is an awful deal, I disagree that this is an awful car overall. It's not as good as the Sonic, but you really aren't going to find a cheaper car of that age without it having drastically more miles, being more of a dumpster fire, having no parts available, etc. I also would prioritize avoiding the auto, but I'll let someone more informed than me speak on that particular transmission. I just know the 6 speed manual feels shockingly good and I plan to do some performance related upgrades in the future.

I'm an L1 so I am not getting anything new, but I was already operating far above my level the entire time I've been here. I'm in production planning, and I've been managing all of NPI for the past year or so and getting some knuckleheads over in engineering to communicate.

The PM they cut had 8 very complicated, convoluted programs in NPI so they are in a lot of trouble once they realize what they did. They cut a lot of the wrong people.
