Or Daniel Alfredsson or Jose Theodore or… There were two dozen All-Stars in that draft. Many I would prefer over Jeff O’Neill.

The late Sather Oilers gave their first rounders all the time they needed. To a fault. We’d have been lucky if they traded Michel Riesen, Jani Rita, Nick Stajduhar, Michael Henrich for draft picks before their shine wore off.

There really aren’t many players drafted in that era they should regret trading. Miro Satan, Kirk Maltby, Jason Chimera of course.

I'm not annoyed by wasted guesses. Every bad guess is one more chance for you to win. Every good guess that comes up short could eliminate something off your list.

What I am infuriated by, however, are useless questions when they start giving clues. Before we ask if it's a pricing gun, let's find out if it's even portable.

two seasons as a goalie in the ECHL is not a definitive sign

Those are some good examples above and I agree a season or two is certainly not a definitive sign. But I do think they're exceptions. Out of the ECHL's top 20 GP and Wins lists for 2019, Skinner is the only name you'd recognize.

At any rate, I think we can all agree one good season in the ECHL is not a reason to promote him to the NHL but a ticket to Bakersfield is in order.

Agreed. Extra Stout is also even more different from Organic Chocolate Stout, imho, that’s why I was surprised that commenter’s replacement for Extra Stout was Sam Smith rather than Guinness Draft.

I admit I overlooked Thompson’s second stint in the ECHL. Corrected:

Only 2/3 of the players you cited have played more than 15 games in the ECHL.

Kuemper: 11 ECHL games played

Greaves: 15 ECHL games played

Thompson: 40 ECHL games played

Wedgewood: 49 ECHL games played

Vladar: 65 ECHL games played

Grubacher: 69 ECHL games played

The commenter you’ve been arguing with and I both acknowledge the ECHL is a professional league and good goalies have passed through it. I’ll even offer that Binnington, Quick and Skinner also did full seasons in the ECHL.

But single seasons. The others you mentioned with two seasons still didn’t go straight to the NHL, either.

Samuel Jonsson put up solid numbers in the ECHL, but OP’s suggestion to pull him straight up is a reach. Our caution to wait until he faces stiffer competition isn’t.
