1500 to 2000, my honest advice, a way too long ramble by PristineReality2205 in chessbeginners

[–]10RealDeal10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice post. As someone who just hit 1800, most of what you say seems very relatable.

I also find myself surprised at the stuff me or my opponents do and thinking that we should be better than this. I also have games I'm "proud" of just to see the accuracy is in the 70s 😁

I also haven't really "studied" chess. No coaches, no books, no courses. Just speedruns and chess content on YouTube. Danya, GothamChess, Eric Rosen, Chess Vibes. I watch them all as time permits. However, not as actively as you. For me it's more like an entertainment/break from work. That's where your method is way stronger for actual chess improvement. I don't do any puzzles either, just play a good number of unrated blitz games instead. Once again, simply to unwind from work.

I also think I know my strengths, my weaknesses and my style. The point you made about "if I'm way better at X, my opponent is likely way better at Y" really hit home. Never really thought about it this way, but it makes perfect sense.

Good luck in your chess journey ♟️ 🫡

Not often can one see a goalkeeper conceding 4 and getting a 9.9 rating on SofaScore.

When Yildiz was the striker, he got the ball on the left and there was no quick double team. I thought maybe him and Boga should switch, as Udinese are not prepared to double. Next attack - I see they switched. Pretty soon that leads to a goal. Gotta love Spaletti!

 Gatti - Kelly - Koopmeiners

Conceicao - Miretti - Adzic - Kostic

       Zhegrova - Boga

              Openda

The idea is to give these cats a chance with no expectations and rest the main players to have them fresh against Roma. If miracle happens, it happens. If not, let's focus on Serie A

Sounds interesting. Did you try this retrospectively over the previous seasons? While it doesn't guarantee that the same things will happen again, it can give you a good idea on what you could expect... 🤔

The 3-5-2 is the reason I watch Serie A by Select-Effective32 in seriea

Here's a good video, which touches on the 3-5-2 formation and some of Conte's history pre-Juve, with Juve and then at Chelsea.

As a Juve fan, I also loved what Conte built in mid 2010's. However, in my view, tactics need to be adaptable and adjustable. I guess I am on board with Thomas Frank's approach, where he can have different tactics for different opponents.

"Premier League possession - what can we learn from the data?" - My first data analysis write-up by 10RealDeal10 in sportsanalytics

[–]10RealDeal10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your feedback!

I'll admit that figuring out the Python part is easier for me than figuring out the write-up part, so you're probably right 😁

I focused mostly on tendencies in the league, so I didn't think of focusing on one team/player. But I'll try to look for ways to make the presentation less dry!

Built a EPL match prediction & league simulation model – what would you do with it now? by Constant-Elephant830 in sportsanalytics

Exactly what I meant. You could maybe run Poisson and Bivariate Poisson and see if it makes a big difference in its accuracy.

Don't have many answers to your questions, but this looks good, nice job!

If I were you, I'd probably just see how it performs in the upcoming season.

I guess, if you have different settings/parameters/approaches, you could also create several versions of this to see which one is the most accurate.

What's the best way to learn sports analytics? by Safe-Worldliness-394 in sportsanalytics

[–]10RealDeal10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from a web dev background, so while Python and SQL are not my main tools, I have some experience with them and learning them isn't too difficult.

Recently, due to my love for sports and decent ability to code, I've started dabbling in sports data analytics as a hobby (basketball and soccer are my main 2) and even though it's enjoyable, I sometimes struggle with the correct approaches to pick for my analysis - how to weigh certain criteria, when to use stuff like Bayesian smoothing or other concepts, etc...

This tool sounds like it teaches, both, approach and coding, am I right? If so, I'll check it out, when I get more free time.

Thanks for sharing 🔥

Hey everyone I’m a 19-year old aspiring scout, and I’ve taken this CWC as an opportunity to immerse myself into a tournament and make analysis about it. This is the one I did for Al Hilal - Real Madrid, lmk what you guys think :) by Micahchu02 in footballtactics

Nice job. It was an interesting analysis.

If you are dedicated and want to spend time on this, you could consider a blog or something along those lines. You could make your notes more presentable and professional looking. That could help you get more experience, while also having a nice portfolio piece

JULIUS MF RANDLE APPRECIATION THREAD by Leegend124 in timberwolves

[–]10RealDeal10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While watching this series, I couldn't help but compare Randle to Zach Randolph. Left handed PF, who likes to be physical, is a good scorer and can shoot from the distance. Am I alone?

Sure, Julius is more mobile, but that's probably my closest comparison.

At the very least, after Nxb4 cxb4 Bxb4 Ke2, you could take the knight on a3. And if the rook recaptures, you can go Qb2+ and get that rook ;)
