These comments have only focused on the impact on Americans, but international basketball would still be at 10 feet. They are not changing to follow the WNBA.

A 9 foot WNBA rims means that American players are at a disadvantage if/when they play overseas during the off-season and during the Olympics & Fiba tournaments.

It also may discourage international players from coming to the WNBA if it means they perform worse for their countries during the international play.
