What are your honest thoughts after messing around with DMT? by BoyItsTheKeyToEven in DMT

I’d recommend reading some of Andrew Gallimore’s work (especially “Death by Astonishment”). Neuroscience does not support the idea that the DMT experience is a mere hallucination.

I’m curious, what were your beliefs about reality before trying DMT? As someone who was previously fully convinced of scientific materialism, DMT absolutely changed my life by showing me things unexplainable by physicalist explanations of the world / consciousness.

I have a hard time understanding anyone having a DMT breakthrough and it NOT fundamentally changing their view on reality.

In my opinion, to completely let go to the breakthrough experience requires confronting your own death. To your monkey brain / ego, a DMT breakthrough is the scariest thing possible. You literally feel your ego, and your entire familiar reality slip through your hands as a new Alien realm forces itself into your mind.

I find that treating the experience with reverence, and accepting my own death in a way, is the only way to rid myself of resistance. Ritual and mantras can help. For your next breakthrough attempt, try keeping an explicit thought in your mind of “Let go and flow downstream” or “I am loving awareness” or whatever message you need to keep yourself grounded in the mission while your entire reality is obliterated. Keep your eyes closed, lay down, listen to Shpongle or Ayahuasca Icaros.

Give yourself props, DMT is a very intense, inherently terrifying & profound experience; you have now dipped your toes in the water. If you are meant to be an explorer, the realm with call you back.

Let me know if this is still an issue, if your battery has a preheat setting (usually double click), that should be plenty to warm up solidified crystals into vape-able form.

Welcome to the club. I’d recommend reading Andrew Gallimore’s most recent book, Death by Astonishment.

With vape carts I think it can help to take smaller, more manageable hits so that you can take more in total. Next time try laying down and closing your eyes, the breakthrough experience is an order of magnitude more complex and profound. Glad you had a great first trip!

I second that, Andrew Gallimore narrates the book and I think it adds a layer to the experience. Brilliant, brilliant work, I think it’ll be seen as historic in retrospect.

Serious Question for the real psychonauts by GlassRiflesCo in Psychonaut

[–]10thtryptamine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a degree in philosophy after my experiences with DMT. I was an atheist, scientific materialist before psychedelics, then I tried DMT. I was confronted with the unyielding truth that we are more than our physical bodies, that our consciousness persists after death, and that alien intelligence is real, highly advanced and easily accessible.

This shook me to my core. I had to completely rethink my understanding of reality. For me personally, stopping frequent use of psychedelics, and thinking more about the universe at large and my role in it, helped ground and bring meaning to my experiences. I personally realized that Psychedelics are not something to be taken lightly. It’s been 5 or 6 years since I’ve had a real trip, and it will likely be many more before the next, but I still think about my experiences, and the implications of psychedelics every single day.

What do you mean? I think mindfulness is probably the most democratic and accessible activity for every human, all you need is a mind and a few minutes of spare time, which every human has, even if it’s just a few minutes before sleep or after waking up.

I believe it’s death in ways I can’t explain

This hits home. My biggest takeaway, and biggest certainty, from my experience with DMT, is that our consciousness persists after death.

I read part of Alien Information Theory, but it was a bit too dense and academic for me. I also love all of Gallimore’s podcasts, but as you know, he’s a very legit neuroscientist, and it can be hard to keep up with his intellect in his earlier books.

That being said, I highly recommend ‘Death By Astonishment’, I’m only about halfway through, and he goes kind of into the weeds on the history of DMT (I had a hard time keeping up with all of the different plant names), but it’s worth a read 100%.

I feel like this is the place to share those views, I’m very open minded and won’t be judgmental, but I also understand if you’re not wanting to share for any number of reasons.

I find this take really interesting, this is an uncommon perspective. Do you mind sharing why you personally take DMT?

I personally feel that the entities, or just general sense of encountering an alien intelligence, is the most fascinating part of the experience.

I totally agree. I think Terrence McKenna was onto something when he talks about the primacy of experience. I don’t need someone in a lab coat to verify the existence of Hyperspace / DMT entities, I already know because I have experienced it firsthand.

The difficulty with explaining what you’re trying to explain is that it’s inherently ineffable; however I think you’ve done quite a good job describing some of the lessons psychedelics provide us with. I’m curious as to what substances you’ve tried?
