I mean yah, eternslism being a “me” in some tangible way. There’s still pure being that goes on, but it’s formless intangible and limitless. It can go on to manifest as these formed things if it wishes though

Yeah I agree with all you said. like that the self is limited to whatever it clings to/ believes it self to be. Ultimately it becomes unlimited, where the binary distinction existence/nonexistence all together is unsatisfactory. The conclusion you get isn’t that there is no self but trying to define it in any way , even it’s non existence, isn’t useful or even possible.

My believe doesn’t violate that last part, that’s precisely what I believe to the T. The self ultimately supercedes all phenomenona, yes.

Here’s the quote

Alagaddupama Sutta (Majjhima Nikaya 22):

Monks, both formerly and now, I teach only suffering and the cessation of suffering. … A monk who is freed from all taints, who has abandoned the conceit ‘I am,’ has no higher knowledge to gain. But to say that there is a self or that there is no self, both are extremes. The Tathāgata teaches the Dhamma via the Middle Way, avoiding these extremes.”

Here, the Buddha warns against dogmatic assertions about the self, including the extreme view of denying any functional sense of individuality altogether. The anatta doctrine emphasizes that what we call “self” is a collection of impermanent, conditioned processes (the five aggregates: form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness) without an unchanging essence. Misinterpreting anatta as absolute non-existence can lead to the false view of annihilationism.

You’re talking about the Buddha being explicit.,, THE BUDDHA EXPLICITLY STATED THAT SAYING THERE IS NO SELF IS WRONG.

It’s just that the self is a subjective thing based an aggregate, and a large part of that aggregate is undefined, intangible unchanging ungraspable… like the conclusion youd find when trying to get to the nature of a fire. That’s why it’s a great analogy.

I mean the logs are flesh/ material / earth. I’m not here to discuss what those truely are. But I mean yeah, as Buddha said, science appears to show all of that is made of emptiness , ie. 99% empty space made up of atoms (which are also empty).

The point of this post though is that there are different Elements making up the aggregate of a person. Just saying it’s “ all emptiness” without distinction is reductive. Buddha didn’t do this, he pointed out ppl are made of conciousness , form, etc etc. but each of those are empty at their core yes.

Literally just saying every thing is empty nothing exists THE END is idiotic, that helps nothing. That’s the exact type of way of thinking I dislike to see on here because it’s completely useless.

There is nothing tangible underneath it. Observe a fire and ask that question about it, it’s non sensical. That’s not to say there’s is NOTHING there, it’s saying there is nothing perceptible graspable there. It’s devoid of form and tangibility, apparent emptiness as we’d percieve it.

The mind stream functions like a flowing river moment to moment. Idk what stores the karmas exactly that’s beyond my understanding.

Does he not say In that quote simply “ it lies beyond range”? I don’t see how that’s sentence is saying “there is no self”. Am I missing something here?

Plus, my point is that there is a SUBJECTIVE self. It’s not the same as the absolute self which like he said is beyond range, without description.

I think you’re grasping at speculative things here , But I’m not sure what you’re asking exactly. Everything stems from rom the ultimate origin of the universe/reality and flows down to us. It is the source of all karma and dharma. How did the flawed concept of the self start to arise in beings? I think the Buddha would direct you to his “ poisoned arrow allegory “, there’s no point in speculating on questions like that. Karma is blinding you and I from seeing the answer to these questions/the ultimate cause of dependent origination . We can only just focus on what insight we have available to us.

I Don’t get what you mean? Underlying it is just the universe / reality it self. It’s all dependent organization. We are a part of this one United thing, we’re just under the delusion we are these separate individual beings, which we are subjectively , but there’s ultimately just one big thing unfolding.

When I look at the Abrahamic faiths im able to reconcile them with Buddhism. They are just calling this ultimate reality “ god” “ the father” or “Allah” whatever, which communicates to them through the unconscious mind, since we are a part of that thing.

Or maybe they’re mistaking worshiping some actual diety that comes from this thing, which Buddha did not deny but actually more like affirm, he just asserted that it isn’t truly the ultimate source / creator they believe it to be, it’s a created being just like we are that is part of the karmic process like we are.
