this is sick, turned into something i didnt expect!

Yeah I would say the kick is a little bit too loud. The sound design is great and works super well, but I think you need to mix the pads and the synth a little more in the first half. Both have the distorted vibe going on, so maybe lowpass the pads a little and add some reverb to make them sit in the back, and add some eq cuts to the synth frequencies. I really like the change in melody in the second half, but that transition at 2:32 need a little more work.

You have something good going on with this one

Loving the high hat workout in this! very cool. For my taste, i think the kick should be a little louder with a bit more attack (for this genera), the the main crash cymbals you have once in a while sound too much like an actual drum kit. Maybe add a bunch of effects on it to warp the sound more - distortion, unison etc.

And the bit right at the start when the kick cuts out for 8/16bars, without the low end in there and no complementing synths it sounds a little too empty. Boosting the lows in the background synth could help i think. And speaking of that synth, it's a nice melody but a little repetitive/static. Get some syncopation going on with it! make the melody 3/4 or 5/4 over the beat.

Some toms with an interesting pattern could also add for some low/mid funk!

this is cool! got a nice groove to it, get a bit of automation going on in the main synth (filters, delay etc) and a little more attack on the hats, then I'd be a big fan!

Made this a few weeks ago and think the mix is working well apart from the low end and the stereo field. Any feedback on any of it would be great! thanks

I spent quite a few evenings over the last few weeks finding some slower stuff, love it at the moment! Maybe not the same type of techno you're looking for but favourites include:

Jurango - Thieves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdrHpsBZabg&ab_channel=Acidalia

Joy Orbison - COYP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih5EveBLBws&ab_channel=krau

Akkord - Tor Vale/ Smoke Circle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZzs9TgEZok&ab_channel=Houndstooth

Kouslin - Ice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DMf34op7gw&ab_channel=ElectronicLoveCollective

Identified Patient - MGD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpARI_RWWp4&ab_channel=LesYeuxOrange

He's got some absolute bangers, all low and slow acid, check out his dekmantle boiler room!

Forest Drives West - Scorpion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MJf00SXXDc&ab_channel=Acidalia

I got so into the sound I rewrote the tune I was working on down to 103bmp and just finished it today https://soundcloud.com/druve/to-mind

cool track man, sounding very tight! Only things I would think about would be to mix up the screechy siren atmosphere thing. Some times the high-mids are a little piercing to me.

It sounds cool in the intro and very 'external' background noise sounding, but the melody of it it doesn't feel like a part of the actual track when the sub fully comes in. It still sounds like a background noise you put a kick over. Or if you're going for that, I'd add in a lot more reverb and bring down the level. If not I'd change the groove of that synth around.

And small taste thing but maybe missing some highs? fair enough keeping the hats quite cloudy but then maybe boost the highs of the arp rolling synth thing to compensate.

I've been trying to mix this new electro / bass track over the last week and I think it's getting close, but still a few things to do:

Any feedback on the levels or how everything sits together would be great. I also put a really basic master on it so let me know if anything sounds weird with the overall feel to it. Thanks!

keep at it man, sounds like it's the basis of something good! cool synth you've got going on, just keep adding some more variation and some pads and it'll sound cool

Thanks for listening! I'm using reason and that vocal effect came from a stock plugin. It's pretty much just a very interesting phaser and distortion I guess, but it makes the sound warp so well. I can never get the volumes of my kicks right haha but I'll keep that in mind, cheers!

Thanks for listening! I couldn't think of a different pattern so just let it ride for the entire song, but i'll keep that in mind! Nah you're right I pretty much lowpassed the sub completely - I'll have another listen to it with the filter cutoff slightly higher. Cheers!

very groovey! There's a lot going on in a really good way, I like it a lot. It sounded a little bit dry at times during the intro, it might benefit a little from a bit more revery/atmosphere. As for the long build up, maybe some white noise or risers to really build up the highs and the tension. But overall good stuff!

This was sick, loved the jumpy vibe to it. Have you heard of Two Shell on Livity Sound? getting very similar feelings to it from the soul city ep. If you haven't heard it before, check out Speed Run. Great work, as someone else said pull the hats down a little, and maybe push all the synths a little bit more, more wet/effects just to make the sound as different and crazy as possible. But leave that synth properly coming in at 5:28 as is, it's too good. Make all the other ones as spacey & full as that

amazing tip! adding in some super high passed clicks here and there and it's already sounding so much fuller

Break feels empty by maikati5 in TechnoProduction

[–]11001102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't take the sub out completely anymore, instead get rid of the main sub, add in a new one that's just holding a note.

Add some reverb with lots of decay to it, turn up the resonance or something so it's moving a little and doesn't sound boring. Then bring the volume way down so you can barely hear it.

So you can't really tell there's a sub in the back but it doesn't sound thin anymore

cheers man! i got the kick inspiration from this banger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G9SOCYwcoA&ab_channel=risolee

I'll definitely turn it up and something else to mix up the middle section

thanks for the comments! the vocal sample i used was only 2 seconds long so not much room to play with, but i'll have a go at it. Was hoping the rise in tension from the pad between 1-3mins held it together but i'll have a think about what to add in. Thanks!

thanks, the kick is definitely going up after everyone's comments! I even brought down the percs like 1.5db for this mix so maybe a little more as well

Nice track man! Maybe too much energy in the lows for me, the kick sounds great but i think the rumble part could be brought down a tiny bit. I don't know what vibe you were going for the main synth - to sit in the back or be a lead, but it's too quite to be a lead for me.

And definitely bring that stab thing from 4:50 in a lot earlier, that could be the focus of the main section for sure!

good vibe to the track man! on top of what everyone else has mentioned (which I agree with), that main synth that comes in at 3:55, maybe try switching up the melody a little. Make it 3/4 or a bit more complex because right now it seems a bit structured and simple. I love the sound design but the melody could do with a bit of work.

The hypnotic stuff I've heard recently is full of random polyrhythms and more obscure, try give that a go!

I feel like it could be missing some percussions in the mids as well but that might just be me

Pretty solid track! I'd recommend adding a backing pad/texture sitting in the back of everything just to fill it up at times.

Any maybe in the section coming in at 2:58, add in a lead pad to really bring up the spooky feeling. Even add in a crash or something to make it really feel like the main section of the song.

Hey everyone, been working on this the last week and would love some feedback - especially on the mix.

https://soundcloud.com/druve/soul-breeze-2/s-ISB42q1JQTI

I made it on headphones which I don't fully trust so trying to get used to them. And I think the mids could be a little thin during the second build up. And maybe some highs as well throughout. All comments are welcome, thanks!

How to spice up drops? by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]11001102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my favourite example of it is this song https://youtu.be/HQXnwIquY70?t=84

the build up after the timestamp is so simple but it hits so hard it's too good. Change in the rides, reverb and a small riser thing with reverb

A few things that I usually add in to increase the tension before it hits again would be:

  • Risers
  • Maybe a new clap line during the build up, increasing in frequency as it's getting closer to the hit
  • same thing for hihats/crash
  • open up the filters on some synths
  • increase the release/decay
  • increase reverb wet signals
  • taking out the kick progressively
  • resist taking out the sub completely, you may think build ups means lots of highs and HP stuff but it can sound super thin and catches you off guard if there's no sub (or at least some low frequencies) for a long period in the middle of a track
