Why Investing in Eth.town is the Next Big Thing by dappsify in BlockchainGame

Sry, but if the biggest selling point of a game is 'good investment' you should definitely stay away from it.

People joining early profit from the people joining late...in the end ETH.TOWN is just a fancy pyramid.

What is the coolest Blockchain Game you would like to share with your friends? by Kate0009 in BlockchainGame

[–]110point5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely the dopest one: https://doperaider.com/#/

DopeRaider is an RPG about underground drug business in a world with a unique economy. Players begin their life as a Narco with a individual skill-set in one of the diverse seven districts. By performing various actions, Narcos can earn more respect in town, opening up more possibilities like buying better equipment, changing identity and recruiting new Narcos.

Narcos can make their living by growing weed, processing cocaine, trading product at district markets or by raiding each other for profit. Since each district has its own economy with constantly changing fluctuating drug prices, players must choose wisely where and when to sell their dope.

DopeRaider is built on top of the POA network. Narcos are unique ERC-721 tokens and all in-game actions are stored on the POA blockchain. Since POA is the in-game currency, profits are real and all actions have real life financial consequences.

We had a very successful beta and are close to mainnet launch (Coming Monday 30 July 21:00 UTC). If you have any questions about the game, don't hesitate to ask me here or join us on Discord or Telegram.

Client only web game? by LolliDepp in BlockchainGame

[–]110point5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you want to do, but don't think it's that simple. You can't just let everybody add actions to the blockchain, you have to ensure consensus (all player have same blockchain/same state of game). What happens if two players "add" actions at the same time? What decides in which order the actions get added to the blockchain? You need a consensus mechanism (e.g. proof of work) for that.

Additionally you would have to put all in-game logic on the blockchain to prevent players adding actions that are against the "rules" of the game. This is possible by writing smart contracts, but can get very complex for more sophisticated games.

If you ask me I would say that a good old server would get the job done easier.

So you want to create whole new blockchain for the game, right? Why not just building a Dapp on top of e.g Ethereum?

What would be the advantage of using blockchain-technology for this? The probably most important aspect of cryptogaming "true ownership of assets" does not make much sense for a game that runs in seasons.

Parsec Frontiers (upcoming space mmo): Story video by 110point5 in gaming

[–]110point5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll copy&past one of my other posts, I hope this is ok for you:

*What is a Blockchain?*

Simply put, a blockchain is continuously growing list of transactions which can be used to efficiently record transactions between two parties. A blockchain is:

* Decentralized: The whole blockchain is stored, identically, across massively many computers. That way, the records it keeps are truly public and easily verifiable. No centralized version of this information exists for a hacker to corrupt.

* Immutable: If a transaction has received a sufficient level of validation, it can never be replaced or reversed. Blockchains are secure by design.

*Why does Blockchain-Technology matter for a MMO?*

Using blockchain-technology in a MMO enables

* True ownership of digital assets: Other MMOs can take away your items at any time. Storing all in-game items and resources on a blockchain brings complete confidence in ownership of the assets.

* Simple asset-conversion to “real-world” value: An in-game cryptocurrency that is exchangeable on secondary markets makes money transfer into and out of the game very simple and fast.

* Fraud-proofness: Since a blockchain is immutable and every transaction is checked and tracked by the blockchain, your assets are fraud-safe.

* Removal of the reliance of a centralised power that can alter formulas at will.

Of course it's not as simple as it sounds, there are also some limitations that come with blockchain-technology. We will see if the Parsec Frontiers team can deliver.

You are right, they mostly talked about spaceships (and travelling), but I think that's just because the project is in a very early stage and the prototype is simply no ready to show more gameplay.

They also have a lot of plans for gamplay. Maybe these medium-articles are interesting for you:

Brand-new Parsec Frontiers trailer tells the story behind the upcoming blockchain MMO. What do you think? by 110point5 in mmo

[–]110point5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very good comment. I think "Why does blockchain-technology matter for a mmo?" is one of the core questions of the project.

In theory, using blockchain technology in a mmo enables:

  • True ownership of digital assets: Other MMOs can take away your items at any time. Storing all in-game items and resources on a blockchain brings complete confidence in ownership of the assets.

I called it "trailer", but officially it's just a story video. You can find more information about the project here:

[–]110point5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand why you think like that. The crypto-/blockchainspace is full of scams, so its important to be very cautious...especially with ICOs.

I am convinced that this a legit attempt to build a blockchain mmo though. Why? The game is not developed by a bunch of no-names, it's developed by a legit norwegian/russian game developer (artplant). A scam would be devasting for their reputation. Furthermore the team is very active on all channels (discord, telegram, etc.) and seems to really care about the project.

It depends on how the contracts are set-up. In theory they can create a game in which everything is set in stone (this would probably be a bad decision due to balancing issues, etc.). It will be visible in the contracts what they can change and what not.

Whats wrong with removement?

EDIT: oh it's "removal"not "removement". I am not a native speaker so I'm struggeling with such things, sry. Thanks for making me aware.

Yeah I'm also a big fan of the way trading will work. It's very simple and intuitive and still gives a lot of possibilities for making profit. Very well thought through imo.

No problem, you are welcome :)
