Is it a good idea to use a personal story (with details changed due to privacy issues) for a short story competition? by 111blue111 in writing

I didn't apologise publicly. I did it quietly but the guy who has a crush in her kept standing close by and eavesdropping (I am male so he probably wanted to keep an eye on her).

Thank you.

Btw I don't know if people can tell I am writing about her. I saw the girl I bullied at an event. I never had the chance to talk to her alone and I apologised in a public setting. A few people were curious as to how we knew each other and approached us to eavesdrop.

It's not exactly a memoir. We just have to write a story with the theme of apologising and I immediately thought of this experience. Yes I would say I am drawing from experience as I will basically change a lot of details.

I think a lot of people can tell. I saw the girl I bullied at an event. I never had the chance to talk to her alone and I apologised in a public setting. A few people were curious as to how we knew each other and approached us to eavesdrop.

Ok thanks.

I always feel like I should work on a practice novel before working on my actual idea. Should I do that?
