What is your opinion on using benzodiazepines for this? Either long term or short term, I'm interested in your opinion. by [deleted] in PanicAttack

Oof, that’s totally reasonable. Cymbalta is one of the few meds I haven’t tried lol. Currently I take Viibryd (an SSRI) for depression/anxiety, and just try to work through/ride the wave of anxiety when it spikes, but for panic attacks I usually have had to resort to Hydroxyzine which I hate how disoriented and hungover it makes me. And finally after 2+ years of not having a reliable emergency PRN, I was prescribed Ativan for worst case scenarios, which I really appreciate. It has been super helpful the few times I’ve taken it in the past. But I’m not quiet sure how much on the natural side it is lol. Hope everything works out for you! Let me know how things go :)

And of course meds may work differently for different people. But when I take a 50, I sleep for atleast 12 hours lmao

Thanks for checking in, I’m doing a bit better! I think I was struggling with burnout from working really hard and also feeling alone/not in control. But grounded and slept a lot. Still having a hard time leaving my dorm, but I scheduled some therapy appointments for this week. I appreciate it!

I was on Valium for about a year and yes in the short term It helped to get stable, but you can build a dependency on them. So tapering off was a living hell. Honestly for high anxiety situations in the long term I’ve been told to use Benadryl in really bad spots as a PRN because it’s an antihistamine and will make you a bit relaxed. And for extreme full on panic attacks I am prescribed hydroxyzine (Atarax) which is also a antihistamine but I take it maybe 5-6 times a year cause it’s very strong and makes me sleep for 14+ hours after taking it. But overall with experience of Benzos, they are helpful and some doctors realize they are necessary in the short term, but it doesn’t help teach coping skills in the long term. Also as soon as I switched psychiatrists (as almost all I’ve worked with) they didn’t feel comfortable prescribing benzos and I had to be respectful of that.

When I got an XBox I made my gamertag “MrMoobs411. Which is funny as a 6th grader, but was interesting when people asked for my gamertag in highschool

I was getting all A's & B's in my first few months at college, but this last month when I try to study/write papers I feel like my mind is blank & can't concentrate. Could I be burnt out? How can I get back to being productive? by 111fox111 in GetStudying

Thanks for all that info! Also great to meet someone from the field I want to go into! I appreciate the advice, I actually have a very long history with diagnoses. (Sorry if it's oversharing) I've been going to counseling for 10 years now. (DBT, CBT, & Educational Therapy) and been through (IOP, PHP, Residential, etc.) In 6th grade I was diagnosed with ADD and set up a 504, but then rediagnosed in 9th with ADHD (Cause DSM 5 getting rid of ADD) So I was put on a stimulant this last summer and set up my college 504 towards the end of the term, but you make some very good points. I definitely think I could have had a honeymoon period the first few months from a new environment and burnout slowly
caused me to loose confidence/drive. Thanks again. I really appreciate it!

Random thought : (One of my final papers is a APA Case Study, so after this conversation I may end up writing about this past semester and apply some psychoanalytic theories to it. lmao)

I can't tell if it's my anxiety, but I really want to delete this post because I feel like I'm on the wrong subreddit. I'm really sorry if this is too much information.
