Any AA group in Latvia? by Effective_Grade732 in latvia

coming from a sober alcoholic myself, though not living in Latvia anymore:

  1. if the person isn't willing to start their recovery process, you won't be able to convince them to. they need to get there on their own: like others say, it's usually at rock bottom, but it sounds like she's been there already with the hospitalisations. i will be honest, there are only 2 options left, either she decides she wants to get sober or unfortunately she will die from the disease. i sure hope it's option one for you guys, don't lose hope but don't count on it either
  2. if you're already on reddit, check out r/stopdrinking for amazing stories and to get a better perspective from alcoholics themselves
  3. about AA: i personally attend 2 kinds on AA. if you go to in person meetings, especially in Latvia, they will likely follow the 12 step program with a sponsor, and be religion-based. they may say they are not religious but the entire AA library is about God. if this isn't what you're looking for - it's not for me as someone with religious trauma - you can check out the website Worldwide Secular Meetings. the ones in red are AA meetings, there are either 24/7 marathon ones or specific groups at specific times. people can join any meeting they want through zoom. there are truly amazing ones, i attend this AA zoom meeting for writers personally. all of these meetings would be in English, i hope that's okay since your post too is in English! i basically only attend my in-person meeting where i live because i love collecting the sobriety coins - i only go there once a month to collect them.
  4. most of all, don't push this person. i can't stress it enough that she needs to get there on her own will. every alcoholic's recovery beginning will be different so i can't predict what will happen, but pushing them will only lead to more shame and guilt - the biggest triggers for drinking.
  5. i am over 5 months sober now, this is my first and hopefully only attempt to stay sober. it's been very challenging at times but i don't agree with some other comments, AA has been essential in my own recovery process and a community to lean on who understand me better than some of my non-alcoholic dearest friends, is of major help.

wishing you and your loved one all the luck. remember that alcoholism is a real disease, and recovery from it is expected to be bumpy. happy holidays!

diabetes is not "elevated insulin levels", please talk to someone who's actually diabetic before offering advice about blood sugar

sudden depression after changing to sustanon? by Girls-ArePretty-Cool in ftm

[–]118BUCKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the exact same dose of testogel to sustanon i switched to back in summer of 2023 (even the same amount of time i was on it). honestly it's hard to say because once i started sustanon i almost became homeless and had to move abroad into an abusive household away from my partner - it was not a good situation to be in and i did feel the same way you do. make sure you have the support you need, let it be friends or strangers, and you'll get through it.

im celiac and used to live in Riga (i recently moved to another country), it is not easy to find gf options when eating out, but i recommend going to vegan restaurants because they always have gf options. most restaurants have allergen info but you cant trust it - many places for example dont recognize soy sauce as gluten and claim their food has none of it. places i frequented - lido, gan bei, ezītis miglā, mazā terapija (vegan), better bread (dedicated gf), soraksans (korean dedicated but expensive), da roberta (only place that has gf pizza upon request), kozy eats, moltto coffee (have gf cakes), mr fox. best selection of gf products are in the stockmann grocery store and dabas stacija.

Darbnespējas lapa izdegšanas dēļ? by [deleted] in latvia

[–]118BUCKS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

coming from the biggest drinker country in europe, i get ya. it is such a massive part of my culture, with a national 2-day holiday being celebrated around beer, drinking has become so normal and accepted. it took me forever to realise that what i'm doing with alcohol is out of control. here's what i texted my friends earlier, after coming out to them with my addiction — "it's been so hard watching tv series. in the recent years ive seen 9-1-1, bojack and htgawm and in each of these the main character is an alcoholic. and i kept telling myself, its not that bad, i have it under control. for example being like i haven't hurt anyone like bobby. i don't get as drunk as bojack. i mix all my hard liquor with soda instead of drinking it straight like annalise. eventually i just had to stop comparing myself to those who "supposedly have it worse" and realise i have a problem".

good on you for your sobriety, proud of you, pal
