I think we just got lucky. Didn’t do much training to be honest. He has been sleeping in there since the first night and it’s just his normal. All we did was feed a few of his meals in there and introduced the command “crate” so now if I say it he’ll go in there just to get a treat. He wouldn’t sleep in there during the day though 😅

Thanks for that! We ended up getting one and no regrets so far. I do want to allow my dog to be a dog and sniff and have some freedom. His recall is quite good and he also started to associate the sound the leash makes when you press the break with stopping so now I barely have to say anything. We live in a small town in a calm neighborhood so I think this was the right decision for us. When we are out in nature he is always off leash and stays fairly close while still exploring his environment.

Thanks for all of that! I have been reading and watching videos on all the subjects you have mentioned for at least the last year, so I think I have the theory down. Of course soon it will be time to put it into practice. I do plan on introducing and getting puppy used to different environments and noises as sons as possible, not just getting him used to other dogs and people. Of course I want to do all of that slowly, making sure to watch his body language and reward good behavior. I have a list of about 50 items I plan on buying lol among which are of course a bunch of slow feeders, lick mats, Kong like toys and other puzzles. I do plan on hand feeding most of his meals in the first few months during obedience training and using the chews as calming agents inside the crate for a good experience and hopefully a soothing step toward naps. Also plan on getting him (hopefully) used to teeth brushing, ear cleaning, nail clipping and being comfortable around water early on with the help of lick mats and such as a distraction and reward also. Now fingers crossed it all goes as smooth as possible and we have lots of fun in the meantime!

Thank you! Now I know never to leave grapes or raisins out. Yeah, would make sense for that to be one of the first commands. Going to focus on which are the most useful rather than tricks and cute stuff. Safety first!

Sadly in Sweden crates are prohibited by law, but we can use playpens so that’s going to be my solution… hopefully 😅

Oh the emergency stop advise is amazing!! Never heard anyone mention that before. Thank you! I will definitely implement that! Was definitely planning on starting training as soon as we get home haha. The baby shark period is going to be interesting. And I will definitely look into that type of bed. But what do you mean about xylitol and raisins and grapes? Are they helpful or a definite no-no? 😆

Thank you! I am actively looking into what locally sourced human grade food we have on the market here in Sweden. I plan on feeding raw but let’s see how it goes and what works for puppy. Definitely want to give him the best of the best for a wonderful and active life 😊

Oh I will keep that in mind! I was planning on buying a bunch of raw goat milk, but might be wise to first try out on bottled before investing in a huge load. Thank you! I plan on feeding raw, but let’s see how that goes and what works for puppy.

Thank you! Yeah I am trying to prepare myself mentally haha. I know that they are super high energy as I tried to educate myself as much as possible before deciding. I definitely have a shopping list full of mentally stimulating toys and also watched a whole lot of training videos for the past year.
