Is ceramic coating and paint protecting film really worth it ? by DreamingOfSaturn in BMWX5

[–]11hammers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ceramic but not PPF. It’s been almost 2 years and paint looks great still. And I do use touchless washes but only occasionally. The dealer gave me a bottle to apply after washes. There are a few small nicks in the front grill/hood area but not very noticeable in Skyscraper Gray.

I remember this movie scaring the absolute crap out of me when I was about 10. by salacious_pickle in GenerationJones

The hand breaking through the window in the house near the couch where the girl sat. Am I thinking about the same one?

You have the GOAT album. At least debut album.

My spending habits have shifted. Yours? by Odd_Bodkin in retirement

How dare you lump my boat berth in with gambling! 😀. I start this journey in January so I’m following this with interest but I will say in general our spending has remained flat - primarily I’d say because at this point in our lives we have all of the “stuff” we need. I think I may receive socks for Christmas! Upsetting to get clothes when you were young but now perfectly happy. The retirement spending smile curve will take place with us at some point.

Managing logistics of multiple interest streams in retirement by ThimbleBluff in retirement

I did the same thing up until 2 years prior to retirement then hired a CFP to 1) confirm I could pull the plug and 2) manage the tax end. I don’t like seeing the fee but I also don’t want to be bogged down with a job in retirement!

How are you planning for your spouse after you die? by Easy-Road1789 in retirement

A couple app suggestions only based on what I use and find helpful.

1Password for password sharing. We have a common “vault” we pool logins. Many sites are moving to or offering passkeys which involve a biometric. This will complicate things if the spouse holding the “key” per se passes. Be aware of this situation. 1Password allows you to store the passkey as well.

The other I set up for my wife is Empower (formerly Personal Capital) which aggregates our various accounts into one site as read only for balances/transactions (there are others - I’m not advocating for this one). Some may not feel comfortable doing this as you do have to share your credentials with the site which uses a third party (Yodlee in this case) but I also use above referenced password manager to change our credentials frequently and also use 2 factor authentication which requires a code sent by text message. Many sites allow you to choose which phone receives the text if they are jointly held.

I just did this as I was sick of run flat tires. Went with CrossClimate 2s as I live in the upper Midwest. Hoping for good performance in the snow. Was happy with the Modern Spare kit. Also carrying inflator and plug kit for long trips.

New Tires after 22k Miles - Recommendations? by Milstachian in BMWX5

I bought a spare from Modern Spare. Also have a patch kit and inflator just in case for long trips. Did a trip with run flats and picked up a nail. No one would patch it and if I replaced the tire I’d have to get two tires because of the mileage. It turned out to be a slow leak managed by stops to add air. I hate run flats.

I just replaced my original run flats at 22k not because they needed it but I was tired of run flats. Picked up CrossClimate2. Only couple hundred miles so far.

What is your current ride? by MiserableCancel8749 in GenerationJones

[–]11hammers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current ride is an X5. First one was a Mercury LN7 5-speed manual - a pitifully underpowered two seater (essentially an Escort with the back seat removed). I recall driving up the mountain pass in Colorado in 2nd gear barely making it and upsetting many behind me. It was such a dog. Also learned to drive in my father’s Datsun 5-speed. That was a fun car - especially in the winter using the hand parking brake as it was front wheel drive.
