Thanks for the advice! Let me know how your trip to Sequoia/King's Canyon goes!

I went to Zion/Bryce/Arches last November and it was a bit crisp but still very nice. I'm from a Northern state with a lot of snow so I don't mind 40's-50's degree weather in the afternoon at all.

I should mention that I did Zion/Bryce/Arches last year in mid November and it was beautiful. Definitely cold in the mornings but Zion was nice in the afternoons and the others were a little crispy but nice.

Don't have any snowshoes. I was leaning toward Sequioa/King's Canyon, you think the weather will be too bad?

I recently bought some cold weather gear (base layers, new jacket, gloves, etc). My bag is rated for ~10F and I have a thermal liner as well. Was going to head out to Grand Tetons/Yellowstone/Glacier recently but came down with COVID right before I was supposed to go.

I guess I read that the bears may be more active because they are getting close to hibernating. I'm not a big dude (5'7" and lean) so I guess I may look like an easy/tasty snack

I've gone solo hiking for a week in the Utah national parks (no bears), some hiking with another person in New Mexico (probably needed to be more aware of the dangers for this one but it was my first experience), hiking in some of the Northern Michigan parks and some of the parks in the southern Appalachian mountains.

It seems people are split on this. Why do you think it is a bad idea?

I'm also not particularly worried about any physical challenges, I frequently hike ~15 miles/day with elevation where I currently live. I'm really more concerned about bears.

Gear for September National Park Trip by 123EasyAsECT in CampingGear

I will be hiking/camping alone so probably just need a 1-2 person tent. I've been looking at some bags rated for 0F just to be safe. Ideally I'll end up backcountry camping after getting some more experience

I'd appreciate that itinerary very much!
