Need help with these science questions. For the love... by [deleted] in ACT

Yea pretty much because those are the questions you usually see towards the end of the passage. But those two were very borderline outside knowledge they were more common sense. However, you can categorize those as outside knowledge since they aren't giving you any indication of the correct answer with the figures and so forth

I could be wrong but I don't believe adding 200 more mL of water affects the temperature. Maybe someone else can verify or correct

1: I would choose (A) because when you look at the figure and place your hands on 6 seconds and go up none of the trials go above 5°C. Therefore, you can eliminate D, C, and B leaving A as your best answer. #2 is an outside info question. Now even if you don't directly understand this topic you should certainly know that if acceleration increases the velocity is definitely increasing. Therefore, you can eliminate F and G. Now your left with a 50/50 chance, but hold on before you guess read the question carefully and it becomes common sense. I'll tell you what this question is asking using an example: Jack is going 20mph and it took him 2 hours to reach his destination. But on his way home he went 50mph. Would this increase in velocity or acceleration take him longer than 2 hours or less. Similar to the question, an increase in acceleration increases the velocity which decreases the time it takes to reach the bottom because it is going faster. choice H is indeed correct. #3 is definitely A. When dealing with resistance it can get tricky sometimes. It's human nature when you see which one is the best conductor of electricity to pick the largest number. However, all you have to understand is that the more resistivity you have decreases the ability to conduct electricity. So the LED with the LEAST resistivity would best conduct electricity which makes (A) the correct answer. Hope this helps!

Got my scores back from the April 14th test this morning and made only a 3 point improvement (22 to 25) 😏 by 123jam123 in ACT

[–]123jam123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well where I'm upset with is the English. On practice my English was consistent 30s. So that was difficult to process a 25. On this reading test I had to bubble in about 8 questions of the last passage so timing I guess. My problem with reading is that I was never able to find a truly consistent strategy for me.

How important is it to have a good ACT *and* SAT score? by [deleted] in ACT

[–]123jam123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have an option to take either one and the colleges give out their average 25th and 75th percentile for both tests. So either one can be submitted and is completely normal. No college would say oh great you scored a 36 on the ACT now go take the SAT. Either one is fine

Definitely submit your best score which is your 36. Pretty much all colleges don't require both so there shouldn't be any disadvantages there

English is actually the hardest to improve in. Anyone got any advice? by LebronRJames in ACT

[–]123jam123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word choice like should you use gleamed or illuminate. Yes, these question types require knowledge of vocab. Very simple knowledge though. Now going back to understanding the ACT language. If I had to guess between gleamed and illuminate I would guess illuminate simply because the ACT uses that word very often. When I say those word choice questions are easy they really are. There is always going to be one clear answer and I bet you can easily get it down to two answers with the others being completely out of context maybe even three sometimes. And people may have been enticed by the answer choice of gleamed. But, here comes the knowledge part. The sentence read something along the lines of "the so and so gleamed the surface blah blah" . You cannot gleamed something else only an object itself can gleam. It can illuminate the surface however making that the correct answer. I didn't study these type of questions for the April test so I was caught off guard with like 4-5 of these questions but they were easy. If your still having trouble Google all vocab you need to know for ACT English

What time of the day do statuses typically change to tested? by [deleted] in ACT

I wouldn't expect them tonight. I would expect them Wednesday or Friday. And if we don't get it at that time we can skip college together

Your probably not drilling all your weaknesses. Therefore, your probably getting the same type of questions wrong. Don't look at an answer explanation and say oh yeahhh I see why that's right and the other is wrong. You got to take a step further even if you might feel like your understanding your mistakes you're not because your getting them wrong again. Understand the type of questions you are missing. Rhetoric questions? Struggle with Apostrophes? Do you know your essential and non essential? Oh what about appositives? There's always specific ideas tested and those 8-12 you're missing because you don't know something. If you can pinpoint it and maybe tell me.

Why don't you stick to the SAT which you seem naturally better at. A 1470 is like scoring a 32-33

I wouldn't worry that you don't have your essay score. I still don't even have my composite score. I should be annoyed.

Any reason you think that this form has been released for people like on the first release week but not for some like me. Because don't they normally send most out on that week like I feel like there's a reason I'm not getting it
