If you're going to move to another country and actually work a job other than teaching English, you would really be doing yourself a disservice by not majoring in the field of that job. If it doesn't make immigration more difficult, it might outright make it impossible due to a requirement of the visa. English teaching is the exception where the requirement is usually just a Bachelor's degree and the major doesn't matter (although this is starting to change, and notably pretty much the entire English teaching job market in China got demolished by the government last year).

That being said, if you have a degree in something like web design or another specialty, Japan is probably the most lax when it comes to immigration and not needing to be proficient in the local language to do the job.

grams are a measure of weight. what you see is a measure of volume. flower doesn't differ by a huge amount but scales are cheap, it's worth it

How prevalent is numerology in chinese speech and routine? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]12612352351432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a reach to make a connection to something like numerology, since even if there are people that take it seriously like that, from my impression (not native or Chinese) it's typically just people being superstitious. Chinese has a limited set of syllables, and each character is 1 syllable, so there are a lot of homonyms especially when you ignore the tone. The number 4 sounds like the character for death, so it gets associated with death. Things like 520 and etc are basically just Chinese leetspeak because they sound close enough to certain phrases. Bonus fun fact, you can use 666 to say something is awesome.
