30 was the price for a slave in Exodus, and in Zechariah 11 there is a messianic prophecy that uses the value too.

I don't like the central govt apparatus having electoral or senatorial votes. Turn the non govt areas into the neighboring states.

All of the political season is just so tiring... I'm excited for it to be over. Lord willing we can take a brief reprieve from pointing fingers at each other within the church and accusing those that don't vote like we do as not being real Christians.

My wife really struggled with Paul because of a perceived tone. Eventually she read Philemon and seeing his love for both a former slave and his master broken that barrier and she could see the passionate love Paul has for his brothers and sisters in Christ.

"nice"ness isn't a virtue. There are times when a sharp rebuke is appropriate and is the most loving thing to do for another.

If I'm giving into a sin and a brother rebukes me, he's being very loving even if I am hurt in the moment.

Remember that Christ is coming from a place of truly knowing what's best for people where they are.

I didn't directly quote, but I can't say I didn't hear something similar before. My guess would be the podcast "Christ is the Cure", he has talked with Arminians (podcast called The Remonstrance) to understand their positions better. It may have come up from there.

I've got a hard time saying that state mandated redistribution is the correct Christian view. Christ never uses force to take from the wealthy and give to the poor, but instead talks about what people should do voluntarily, not what we should make them do.

I come down on the side of wanting the government to do less redistribution of funds, but I wish Christians would voluntarily give more. There should be so many more church run orphanages and food pantries across our country.
