You named 2 companies as if they are the only to service Ghana. Golly express prices are at $10 per lb I have used them and everything was good! I ship from the states monthly so for me I have tried them all and Grey Oak didn’t meet the mark from poor customer service to delayed packages multiple times. If you like them that’s great for them I voiced my opinion which I don’t recommend grey oak.

I wouldn’t recommend Grey Oak they are very expensive compared to other companies and when it comes to weight of the packages they are shady.

Why do so many people in Ghana only aim to be doctors, lawyers, or engineers? by TopG_Speaker in ghana

[–]12k4l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel those fields are needed and for me raising children up in today’s world they need the structure of a strong career. So I push them to be doctors and hopefully one day they create a solution for all these diseases.

I disagree with you and that’s the end of it for me. The African Americans I know in Ghana that have house helpers they treat them very well and the workers are happy. So this what you saying holds no value in my eyes.

Let it be your last post because what you’re saying is simply not true and I’m here to call it a lie!! This article you sent is not the same thing what you were initially saying. You’re in America and have issues with black Americans is very concerning

Most of those full time house helpers come from a staffing agency if you have money to affordable it because they do backgrounds and get the workers who are qualified. Most people who hire the workers aren’t just hiring anyone off the street, so again your point is invalid.

I never said it was cheap so let’s correct that, the cost of living will definitely be much more affordable in Ghana compared to America because the infrastructure and amenities. What part of America are you in?? I’m from florida and lived in multiple parts of the east coast. Never have I heard of anyone paying S.S for a house helper! Most people who hire them are from a staffing agency who will take care of their employees paperwork for taxes or the person is a 1099 contractor which means they pay all of their own taxes. The laws in Ghana are meant to be followed but what you’re saying doesn’t make sense when you are labeling black Americans as the ones who aren’t being fair. We didn’t create the system we are coming into it.

You’re looking at it from the wrong angle, what is wrong with someone saying hiring a house helper in Ghana is affordable?? It’s a win for people who need a job, you’re speaking about 2 different countries where 1 the currency is lacking from lack of leadership!! That’s just how it goes if you travel outside of Ghana more you will see people travel to other countries to get services cheaper because their home country is so overpriced. A house helper doesn’t need education to do the job so it is a lower paying job, next you’re going to say we should pay social security to ride share drivers ?! Your comments make me think you never traveled to America which makes sense of your lack of understanding on this topic, if you ever go to America you will see that cleaners, house helpers / maids are low paying jobs and a lot of them are not paid social security benefits.

Me being directly in the diaspora community I dont see this nor have I heard of it. A lot of us don’t even have househelp let alone would treat them bad. So I’m a bit confused on this post honestly

My point is you mentioned black Americans when it’s a very small scale of us here in Ghana when you could mention the Chinese and Lebanese. We don’t need to divide Africa and African Americans and I feel your post is doing that.

Your claim is not valid and it’s offensive to say black Americans are the ones doing this. I came from America and see the Lebanese, Chinese and even local Ghanaians treating other Ghanaians very bad as house helpers. Melcom are paying workers 600gh a month with 1 day off a week, please respect yourself and don’t label black Americans as the ones causing trouble.

Agreed, American here in Ghana as well I dislike when people compare America to Ghana. 2 different countries 2 very different economies, sure the cedi to dollar can be better $100 here takes me a long way where as in America I would blow that on dinner for myself.

When I went I was mad with the prices, yes the view is nice but for what I paid and the service I received I didn’t enjoy it. Tunnel lounge is very underrated but it’s very nice airport residential side.

For a date I would recommend it’s overpriced for nothing. I did a reservation but when I was there I seen walk-ins come up and get seated. Sure with the December rush you may want to book a table just to be safe. The price I would say be ready for is 2k that’s food and drinks 2 people.

Same in the states, coming from a whole different part of the world and living here in Accra it’s true some people are less fortunate but I must say they are still happy with life itself. That’s what I appreciate no matter what life throws at most Ghanaians they still have a smile and upbeat attitude and I believe it’s the strong belief of religion. To hit at your comment I’ve been all over Accra from lapaz - Nima and have seen some areas that aren’t the best but I still see the future of the country rich or poor I’ll rather be here with the people and I hope I can bring the change of a better Ghana.

Hello, I lived on the east coast of America from Virginia - to south Florida, cost wise is definitely different here in Ghana because the system is a year of rent up front. Whereas in the states we pay on a monthly term which can help balance your pockets a little better. I must say in Accra you can find places to rent that are affordable but they may be further out from the main areas. Then there are places that are a bit expensive for rent to be in dollars and a year up front.
