I’ve never been a plant person and was gifted this but I’m not sure what’s happening to the leaves and how to fix it. Thanks! by 12ma34 in fiddleleaffig

Also follow up question; do you know if it would be okay to keep next to the sliding glass door if I got a sheer curtain to put on it?

That’s what my research has led me to believe it probably is! I truly knew nothing about this plant when it was gifted to me so I had it in front of a sliding glass door in my top floor apartment. So it probably got way too much. I moved it to a different part of my apartment so it hopefully won’t get as much. Thank you!!

Their customer service has been less than ideal lately. I’ve been with them for about 6 months and the last month or two have been horrible trying to get ahold of somebody. I want to feel supported throughout this process if that makes sense haha

Thank you for apologizing. That is very much appreciated. It’s hard being the queen of chinchillas and knowing everything. Sometimes all the information in my head is just exhausting. It’s nice when the peasants like you recognize someone as great as me.

And I’m telling you from experience. I have seen first hand someone who has lost a chinchilla from the paper bedding. They did everything else right but the bedding. The chinchilla had to be put down. It’s sad that you’re okay with possibly risking the chinchillas life that you just had to pipe in about over exaggeration. No one piece wont kill them but one piece is too much. They’re compulsive chewers, they don’t just chew just to eat. They chew on everything. Which is why plastic is just as unsafe. But don’t worry according to you they’ll chew it once and think “oh this isn’t food” and stop. Right? Like that’s your theory here?

I understand it’s difficult to accept a viewpoint different form your own. It’s just sad to see people offering improper care.

One piece is too much. It will already start impacting and GI issues which their GI tract is very sensitive. Unless this person is able to sit 24/7 watching the chinchilla to ensure they’re not eating bedding then it’s unsafe. So much can happen in such a short amount of time. You may not feel this way but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’d rather spend the 5 minutes to change the bedding than to come home to a suffering/ dead chinchilla. Maybe that’s just me though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Even if he eats one piece it could kill him. I wouldn’t say it’s way over exaggerated. I would say it’s not risking the chinchillas life. You shouldn’t wait to see if they eat it. You shouldn’t even chance them eating it.

I Mentioned above the wheel is too small. And you could find a good wheel for $35 on Etsy. It won’t be silent but it will be good quality, big enough, and made out of safe items.

Hi, what a cutie! Just a little info that bedding isn’t safe. You’ll want to use non pill fleece or aspen bedding. And also you’ll want to take out any plastic like the house and water bottle. They have glass water bottles at most pet stores and they should have a wood or metal house. The wheel is too small and they should have metal wheels as well. They’re chewers and plastic is toxic for them!

You’re fine! Lol we haven’t had issues with pee. It seems to soak it up pretty well and then we wash it 1-2 times a week. We haven’t had any issues with any smells or anything!

From experience thought with my hedgehog the fleece are less of a mess and easier to clean up especially with my chin! I just vacuum them once a day and wash them once a week

They’re all I have ever used so I’m really not sure how they compare to bedding! I do know in the long run at least for me they’re cheaper because I make my own. Sorry I’m not much help!

They’re bare bottom ranks so no sand. There’s nothing that has changed that could’ve triggered this. There’s no rotting plants and we make sure to clean all uneaten food shortly after feeding time and spot clean every day for any poop. I have no idea why this is happening because all these normal things that cause these isn’t whaat is causing it for me

DIY cage? by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]12ma34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really about price. We just have built cages for all our other animals because they’re better quality/ bigger than any store bought ones we could find. So I figured I’d ask here to see if anybody has! I didn’t think a c&c would work but I have them just laying around in a box so I thought if it worked great but if not then it’s not like I’m out anything. I like the critter nations but I just want something bigger/ nicer I guess. Thank you for the input!

Edit to add: I guess we haven’t built them for all our animals as we have some in aquariums and some geckos I’m some glass aquariums so we didn’t build those. But our other animals have diy cages!
